Worth every fucking penny though. I ate like a king there. The deserts there are also legit.

I had an Italian beef at a Portillo's out here in California. The place looks like Disneyland inside with all the neon signs and props... is every location like that?

Depends on which theme for the restaurant they use. They have two themes. Some like the one in Crestwood are 1950's diner (although if they truly wanted to go 1950's they'd have the jukebox thing at every booth). Others like the one in Tinley are 1930's Prohibition.

On the slightly humorous side, in the men's rooms they have signs over one of the urinals that says "Express Lane: Two Beers or Less". I think they got that from Ed Debevic's.

Grilled chicken salad. Had extra chicken from yesterday, cut it up, warmed it up, boiled an egg, cut that up, then put it on top of spinach with cucumber, grape tomatoes, and avocado. Sprinkled mozzarella on top and topped off with ranch dressing. Good stuff.

Had some sliced brisket and a couple sides from Q BBQ in Naperville. If you haven't been here yet, I highly recommend it. Their hushpuppies are addicting!!

Apparently there is much hatred and general disdain for Portillo's from the Chicago-based contingent. I luv me some Portillo's b/c I only get a Chi-style Hot Dog plus a Maxwell Polish once every year or two, and always at a Chi Portillo's. Don't care what anyone thinks, if/when it's the only dog you consume about once every 18 months, it's really, really good.

Anyway, nice for you they have a Portillo's in So-Cal, no such luck up in the North. When it comes to good dogs, the North remembers......

You should see what other places try to pass off as a Chicago dog out here... an abomination. I would take Portillo's over that any day.
Same thing with pizza. Have spent a lot of time in California when it comes to pizza, dogs and burgers it's not good

Burgers = tough to compare, so many great spots in many cities.

Hot Dogs = Chicago, no challengers

Pizza = tricky, really depends on style preference. Deep dish (I.e. Lasagna pie) clearly Chicago; thin crust plain cheese is NY; fancy pie with poached eggs or tasty pig parts or local produce is California.

......and don't get me started on Mexican, that deserves its own thread.

For me, Cali isn't pizza. Food, but not pizza.
NY thin crust? No thanks. Chicago Thin Crust is better in my eyes and it's not close. Though I have only had NY style pizza a few times. All major disappointments though.

Where you not paying attention to the great BearsBud gravy sauce debate?

I looked into it and maybe even posted a question, but it was very confusing if i recall. Gravy is one thing and sauce is another.

Basically it was over how people in the South might call gravy what we (in the more North states) call sauce. It escalated to everything being called gravysauce
