What happens if don't get one of the big 3?

If winning was really what mattered you'd have the all-star team playing together somewhere for the MLE. If he wins a championship, he can say "I'm going to New York for a new challege" and heck, who is going to begrudge him wanting to prove himself in some crazy way? Superstars are weird like that, look at Jordan trying to make a go of baseball.

I think what we disagree on (Stig, Hou, maybe Shakes - haven't read every post) is about Amare being worth a max deal. And I agree he's not a max player. But what's the option?

That's something I guess we'd have to wait until the offseason to see. Is there a team that will offer him the max? I guess New York would so then the Bulls would be in a biding war. So I would say yes, pay him the max.

What's the alternative? Especially if they don't get the Big 3 ( which I don't think they will). Get Joe Johnson? Fine, but you have the same issue's that have plagued this team the past 3 years.

Can the Bulls go into 2010-2011 without a scoring threat down low? I say no.

But Bulls' management seems willing to wait for this perfect storm of youth, cap flexibility and skill. Only if the world was so perfect.

And for Stig's post about Amare's numbers. they're pretty good this year. Not down too far if you look at mins. and shot attempts. He's shooting 55%. It's down from his career year from 07/08 but not too far.

Kush, I agree partially. I just think you gotta go after Amare now. See if he makes you much better and let him walk if he doesn't. Lets face it, if he goes to Cleavland, two of top 6 fas are off the market. Someone better up the ante because the cavs better not get him for Big Z and JJ hickson. Hell why don't we throw Miller and some sort of combo of TT, JJ or Taj. Hell, I'd love to make Deng a principile in the deal.

Amare's numbers have dropped across the board. I don't know what your talking about but he has clearly dropped off from his two career years. Lower shooting percentages, less rebounds, less free throws, less blocks, his numbers are down about 20% across the board since his career years. Thats Amare was really agressive and dangerous, the current amare looks like he lost some of that passion and half a step. I'd rent him for the year and see where we are at but I would definetly put him at a notch below bosh.

the drop in his numbers aren't that bad. He's averaging 21 ppg this year. His high was 26 back in 05 but I tend to look at his good year post-microfracture surgery in 07/08, 25 ppg 9.1 rebs .590 FG and 2.1 blks, 15.3 FG attempts per game in 33.9 min.

This year he's 21.2 ppg, 8.6 rebs, 55% FG, 1 blk on 14.3 FG attempts per game in 34.8 min.

It's not that drastic of a drop. If he puts up an extra shot or 2 per game and gets his FT% back over 80% (which is great for a big man) then he's closer to the 25 ppg. His shooting % is down from that .590, but he's still .55% that very good for someone who doesn't dunk the ball 50 or 60% of the time like Howard or Shaq. Rebounding has pretty much been the same his whole career, never has broke 10 per game. But that's where Noah would come in and it wouldn't worry me too much.

The blocks are down, the FT % is down (but still very good for his position).

But you'd take him and so would I. The Bulls can't keep going the way they are. They gotta have some threat in the paint.

Kush, it accounts for like a 20% drop in production across the board. Its pretty signifigant. Its more than a shot here or there. He just doesn't look like the player he was. I agree he is still good but he wasn't the top 15 player he was before, he is a fringe all star now. Just not worth the max. But I would love to have him as a rental for 30 games and see if he can't get back that magic here.

Winning is what matters, but guys can win and get paid at the same time. Winning matters, it's not the only thing though. Guys want to get paid first, we know that.

Ron Artest is one of the only guys I can think of that passed on a bigger contract to sign a mid-level with a championship team. Other notable players have only done it when they were getting older. Like Malone and Payton in 04 with LA.

But LeBron isn't going to leave a championship team to play with a crap team in NY. Jordan won three titles, his dad died, that was a bit different. He had accomplished a lot and I guess wanted something different. I don't buy into the conspiracy theory that the league told him to lay low because of gambling.

LeBron would win 1 title with Cleveland and already be hungary for a new challenge in NY? I don't think so. I think the challenge of winning back-to-back titles would do it for him.

Now if they get Stoudemire and resign him. the Cavs will be a title contender until LeBron retires.

The history of professional sports say money talks, winning walks. There are exceptions, and maybe LeBron is one of them, but I don't see why anyone would think LeBron is a lock to stay if he wins the championship.

No, but I think it would be a wonderful excuse that would allow him to leave without it looking like he was doing it solely for the money (which would turn people against him).

Go after the player that is worth the max...Chris Bosh. The Bulls jumped off the Amare bandwagon a year ago...no reason to jump back on. There are other players at the same position who are more consistent defensively and don't have the injury history he has.

I think my point got lost in the shuffle...you go for the best if you are going to do all this stuff...it might work, it might not, but you go for it. This year doesn't matter!!! Some people need to get that through their heads... Its about championships...period. I think Bosh gets you a LOT closer than Amare at this point. Giving Amare a max deal would handicap the franchise for the better part of a decade because I think halfway through it, there is a good chance he will break down or lose more effectiveness as he has shown signs of doing already.

Money does talk and no one can off Bron as much as the cavs. If Amare does well, they are both going to getted maxed out.

If the Bulls miss out on the big three free agents, they should simply look to fill team holes with productive players. Looking forward, the holes that will have to be filled are at the 4,2 and backup 5 and 3. If they can fill the holes at the 4 and 2 with Lee and Morrow. I think that would be the ideal free agent signings if the Bulls crap out with James, Wade and Bosh.

I would love to see Amare in a Bulls uniform, but I think a team with Amare will still be incomplete. But if the Bulls could swing a deal for Amare at the deadline, I think they should pull the trigger. The Bulls should be able to put together a more attractive package than Big Z and Hickson. I think Tyrus, Miller, Johnson and a first should be enough to get Amare and Lopez.

A megastar like LeBron makes more from his non-basketball income than his contract. MJ was still the highest paid athlete in the world while making a pitance playing baseball.

Hes not going to make a significant amount more in endorsements. He will make more when he wins a ring than if he changes teams.

I don't expect the bulls to get Wade or Lebron either. I could see us getting Bosh.. But..

I'll be more than happy if we can manage to get maybe David Lee and Joe Johnson, we just gotta make a trade or two before the deadline to free up some cap space.

On the other hand I would'nt mind AMARE!! and maybe a young talented SG like Rudy Fernandez.
Wait is Rudy a free agent come Summer time?

Would we have the money to go with this lineup?

PG: Rose, Hinrich
SG: Joe Johnson, ???
SF: Deng, James Johnson
PF: Bosh, Gibson
C: Noah, ???

Bulls give away Miller, Thomas, Salmons.

Rudy Fernandez would be a waste of time...there will be a lot of players available better than him...

Bosh is more important than Wade. The only player I would take before Bosh is Lebron...Bosh is a much better player than David Lee so he would be my first choice.

Wade is a top 5 player, Bosh isn't, you take Wade and make moves around him.

Of course Wade makes your team better, but having Bosh who is arguably the best front court player in the league and would cause no conflict with the player who is now your franchise player, would be huge for this team. With Wade and Rose, there would be a period of adjustment, and it would take some good coaching to make that work. But Bosh fits right in. And if Bosh is not top 5, he is awfully close.

And if you get Wade, what happens to all of that 3pt shooting people were whining about earlier in the season?

I don't really care, if I'm the bulls I go Bron, Wade, Bosh. You don't pass on a 30ppg scorer who is the most complete all around player at his postion. Wade single handedly carries his team to the playoffs, without him they are a 15 win team. Besides bron no other player adds 30 wins to their team.

Well, I care. I like Wade but Bosh gives them exactly what is needed on this team. Lebron tops my list...then Bosh and then Wade. And there is a guy in LA that can go in that category of uniqueness. While Wade is awesome, Lebron is a once in a lifetime player, and is on place to be the best player ever, that is the only reason I put him over Bosh...but watching Bosh this year...the way he scores the basketball in the post and how he has toughened up...I really like Bosh. If there is all this worry about Joe Johnson's age, Wade is a year younger...how many years of his prime does he have? Bosh is 26, just right to run with Rose for another 5,6 years...

Bosh is really good but Wade is a top 5 player. He plays shut down all nba defense and generates turnovers. He, bron and TT generated the most blocks and steals last year. Wade plays on both sides of the court. Bosh just started being a good rebounder and is still a suspect defender. Wade gets to the line more and is top 10 in assists. Wade is a complete player and can't be stopped. Sorry I take the guy who can carry his team night in and night out. Bosh's teams have also missed the playoffs a ton of times, Wade has only missed once when he was out for half the year. Wade is just a notch above Bosh.

I don't know, even if Wade is a better player than Bosh, wings just aren't as important as bigs. I'd feel a lot more confident of being able to find a decent SG to put with Bosh than find a decent PF to put with Wade. Having your best two players be your guards hasn't traditionally gotten teams far, a guard and a big is the proven formula. So I can see the appeal of Bosh, even if Wade is perhaps the second best player in the league right now.

Ultimately though I'll take any of the big three who are willing to come here. This is like arguing over whether you'd rather have a billion dollars worth of gold or diamonds.
