What is the fascination on this board with Mahomes?

Any position we draft might be a bust, no matter how highly touted the prospect. The odds of any of those stud defensive prospects becoming superstars is around the same as finding a solid franchise QB with the #3 pick. Chances are that Pace will have 2-3 QBs to choose from so if he likes any of those guys, he needs to take one of them. No one remembers that Joe Flacco was projected to be a 2nd rounder by pretty much every single mock draft and that it was kind of a shock when the Ravens "reached" for him in the first round. All that matters was that they picked the right guy, despite not getting draft value.

You're wrong. If 5 tech won's titles The Raiders would have decimated the Texans.

Von Miller would wholly disagree with you. He shredded Cam Newton so much so, that they were able to win the game with a limp Peyton Manning that could barely throw a ten yard out.

My personal opinion on why people like Mahomes is because he is exciting to watch and he wins games.

If we take a QB top three I would be good with it, but I want someone that is ready to start day one. With a #3 pick we should be able to get that. Whether its Watson Trubs or Garrett. If Pace thinks he has a day one starter at QB. jump on it.

If he doesn't feel that way then I think he should go Defense and pick a QB or two later in the draft. Obviously we need to keep picking up QB's until we get a winner at the position. I think that our O line is decent enough that we are not going to get a new guy wrecked right out of the box, so the timing is good on finding a guy that will be here the next 15 years. whether that is 1st round or later rounds I am cool, I just hope we get our guy.

Exciting yes. Wins games? Not so much.

I'm sure the rest of that DL, DeMarcus Ware in particular, the All Pro Defensive backfield, their stellar LB corps etc would disagree. That Broncos defense was an all timer.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but good great QB's get to and win SB's more often than not. The entire history of the NFL proves it. Great 5 techs are very nice pieces to have but examples like the Broncos are the exception...not the rule.

hes good.

the air raid might not be a pro style offense but it does incorporate a number of pro concepts and he is asked to be a pocket passer unlike a number of college QBs. derek carr played in a similar system and a number of scouts have compared the two. while i think carr was a bit more polished, i think mahomes skill set is even more impressive. his mobility and ability to hit receivers accurately while on the move or even in a defenders grasp is impressive. the only glaring flaw he has is that his deep throws tend to be overthrown when hes scrambling because he doesnt set his feet, but thats something that can be worked on, plus hopefully he wouldnt be on the run that often. from the pocket hes accurate all over the field, short, mid, deep. hes simply the most impressive prospect imo with the highest ceiling of them all, other than perhaps kizer. but kizers inconsistency and lack of production/winning is a concern and makes me nervous of taking him at 3.

Lack of winning is a concern but you like Mahomes the best..despite him having a career sub .500 record?!

This is what I'm talking about now with Mahomes. Narrative is off the rails.

"Mahomes wins games!"

"I like Kizer but his lack of winning is a concern....Mahomes has the most upside!"

I do not disagree with your thought on Great QB's getting to and winning super bowls, however if you do not see a great QB at #3 being available what are you to do? Take a mediocre one anyway?? Even though there will be plenty of mediocre ones later in the draft. Especially when you are passing on potential world beater talent at another very important position?

Correct me if I am wrong, but a 5 tech pretty much won the superbowl for the Broncos.

Denver's defense was generationally elite. Two HoF pass rushers, pro bowlers all over the defense. Bears are ~7 players away from that kind of defense. They're one player away from a legit franchise QB.

You want to know the honest reason people like him?

You don't have to draft him at 3.

Everyone is terrified of drafting a QB at 3. If Mahomes climbs the QB rankings and becomes a top 10 pick everyone will hate him again.

Everyone at #3 is a potential world beater talent. That's why they are taken #3.

Sheesh.

A good/great QB is much more valuable than a good/great player at a another position. How you weight that ratio is up to you.

To put it another way...I'd take Ben Roethlisberger over Dick Butkus every day of the week if I'm building a team.

They still benched their young QB to put in a physically limited version of one of the greatest QBs to ever live.

If you told me we could have a guy with a weak arm that would check us into the perfect play every snap, I would be okay with that.

Another reason people might be on the Mahomes train is this from Wikipedia:

"Mahomes would finish the season leading the country in yards per game (421), passing yards (5052), total offense (5312), points responsible for (318), and total touchdowns (53). For his performance, he was awarded the Sammy Baugh Trophy awarded annually to the nation's top college passer"

All while only throwing 10 interceptions.

I am not sure why everyone is so scared of missing on the 3rd pick in the draft?

1. You can still have a great draft even if the 3rd pick is a miss
2. We just missed on the 7th pick in the draft 2 years ago and the sun came up

And before the Kevin White cry baby squad appears, we missed because there is a good chance due to injury that we never get anything close to a return on investment. No one is blaming Pace.

Yea, but would you take Jared Goff over Dick Butkus?

The problem is that it was against the worst defenses you have ever seen in a system that seeks to pad QB stats over winning games.

I don't think he ended up playing a single top 25 defense.

Cool. Want all the Air Raid QB's who put up stupid numbers but weren't good pros?

What specifically does Mahomes do that translates well to the NFL level?

What about his game, talents, fundamentals, experience, play style, says "I'm going to be a franchise QB?"
