It seems like everyone left. left when IP started that facebook group. There was one question asked of the new owner and nobody has posted since he answered that he is just a friend of the old guy. Hope its not a problem.

No problem, just wondering cause I remember your name. Enjoy the board

The cubs started Soler's development up here in the big leagues. Mailee straightened out his swing and the ball stopped flying out of the park. After last years injurt, he came back late, Mailee put loft back in his swing and he was the best hitter on this club in the playoffs. Then they felt they needed Heyward so it put Soler on the bench. Maddon is excited to get him back. I hope to see Soler get the shot to stay, or I look forward to him winning a home run derby for his new team. Now everyone is looking for more kids to get moved and more names to come here. Personally, I got to looking forward to the build, I did not expect them to block these kids.

They signed Heyward for his D. Soler ran some really bad routes. Not to mention RF is the hardest field in Wriggley. Not really a spot for a train wreck that gets leg injuries every year.

I believe the thought was platoon LF and add time with Schwarber catching Hammel. Didn't work out and Soler's injury bug pops up again.

I would like to see them show case him for a trade. I see them enamored with Contreras and rightly so with Soler out of favor right now.

You don't give a player 20+ million a year just for defense. The cubs were obviously expecting his offense to be better than he has preformed.

They signed Heyward for a lot of reasons

1. They needed a guy who could play CF full-time because no knew/expected Fowler back and long term Almora was/is a question to how good he'll be
2. They wanted a guy who doesn't strike out 25% of the time
3. They wanted a guy who could help an outfield's defense

Next year, I assume that Heyward will play a lot of innings in CF and you will see a lot of Bryant in RF with Baez getting a good amount of work at 3B.

Hope not, as far as Heyward playing a bulk of his games in CF

Yea he a good defensive player, but I'm not comfortable with him covering gaps and CF all year and even more so with Schwarber in LF and Bryant or Soler in RF..

I prefer a guy who can cover a lot of ground even if his bat is Avg. Or a bit below...

I'll take my chances with Almora offense with his defense over having Heyward in CF all year.

Plus Heyward proved the other day that he has issues with hitting the wall so some plan that keeps him in RF is the best plan.

OTOH, Almora wont hit for much and you cant have 2 OF with no bat

Yes, but not on that play. He sensed the wall even though he was 20 feet away and got alligator arms like a WR going over the middle. He seems very smooth when he is going downhill (balls in front of him) but when he is chasing balls over his head or to his side he doesnt look smooth. Great CFs have a sense for where they are at all times and take chances near the fence/wall. JMHO

Can we trade Heyward to St. Louis for some fried plantains or no?

How about Soler for Pomeranz and Ross?
Schwarber for Chapman and Miller and a public execution of Cashman?

Then RF might be tricky after that but Cubs can manage.

Why does this post seem dated?

Conteras needs a lot of work before next season behind the plate. With Schwarber coming back, we won't be able to play Willie in LF much.

Plus with Ross retiring and Montero's back totally messed up, it's going to be Willie Time in 2017.

Imagine a lineup with Schwarber, Conteras, Bryant, and Rizzo. That is like 150 HR's.

Contreras is not going to be a giant home run hitter. He should be a gaps hitter. If we get 15 plus a year from him, that will be wonderful.

I don't think you did the same math he did. I think his statement was fine.

Schwarber-61
Bryant- 40
Rizzo-33
Contreras-16

seems ok.

I personally feel a large part of the signing was Theo trying to put the screws to STL. STL is laughing last in this case although they were PO'ed at first.

all I am saying is I hardly ever heard complaints about soler playing the toughest outfield spot in Wrigley field last year. Sure, bot Soler and Schwarber showed problems out there in the playoffs, but balls travel alot differently when its cold. As soon as Heyward was signed all the complaining started happening of how terrible a fielder soler was. I was planning to see him throwing out some pitchers and catchers at first base on singles hit sharply to him. A 184 million dollar signing brought out all the people complaining. Even so, the previous consideration was that Bryant would end up being the right fielder anyway, so I really do not see it as Heyward took solers spot, the bottom line is if Heyward was not signed, Bryant might be the everyday right fielder too and his bat and glove would be out there every day for alot less than 184 million now.

Andrew Marchand

@AndrewMarchand

Yankees could target Cubs' Triple-A first baseman Dan Vogelbach in a deal for either Aroldis Chapman or Andrew Miller.

Reports are the Yankees have moved past Schwarber now since they know the Cubs will not trade him. So, now the talks are considered to be around Volgelbach and one of Torres or Jiminez or some form of package for one of them.

I said before, yankees could ask for the moon early on but if no one wants to offer, then eventually they would have to take best offer if they want to move Miller at deadline. .

Not sure what other interested teams have to offer after their best prospect but I would think the Cubs may have the best chance to put together a very good package to offer .

Epstein not going to walk away from making this deal

Miller the guy he wants and he going to offer a bunch of combos of players til he gets him.

Maybe. I don't see him moving on Torres or Jiminez but you never know. Now Vogelbach, Candelerio and Zagunis or something like that I could see.

Not defending Heyward awful season with bat..
But have to think he will bounce back next year to what he done the past couple years..

Im glad his bad year isnt having an effect on the team playoff chances and im hopeful that come playoffs he recharges and has a solid postseason
