Sopel's hit is prorated though, not the full $2.2M.

ETA: Chris from 300 Level has the Hawks with $500K of room right now and has Sopel at an $800K hit at the deadline.

Still doesn't make it a legitimate rumor though.

Yea but wouldn't Skille be prorated too? I'll never doubt chris but I still don't think there is cap space for him. LOL

It should be less than 800K actually, at the deadline Sopels contract will actually be prorated around 500K.

Trading someone like Skille would give the Hawks enough room to acquire him if they also send down Boynton. If they did that they would be left with around 100K of space.

Also, the Hawks don't have 500K of room right now, its closer to 300K.

I don't mean to bash Chris but I don't think he has the right calculations but he was close.

I don't know. Chris is usually pretty dead on.

Whatever you say is good with me. Chris from 300 Level has his own website and spreadsheet, etc., so I generally don't fact-check him and take it at face value... just was sharing what he had said. Maybe he meant the Hawks would have $500K by the time of the deadline and I misunderstood... at any rate, there would need to be movement, Hawks couldn't just acquire Sopel regardless.

And RK - you're absolutely right about Skille and/or some other movement.

I'm guessing to acquire Sopel, Hendry, boynton and Skill would have be gone. Because just like Sopel they and the SC are prorated at this timje.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
1st off:

Remember Sopel is 2.2 mil or something like that. Hawks have 400k in cap space.

Campbell has a NTC and only like 10 teams he'll even agree to with a trade. And right now he's this teams best defenseman. + 24...

I don't see the Hawks doing much as most will want Seabrook and I just don't think they can go there and expect to make the playoffs. Yes he's that important.

Bolland is on Fire and a Center, he can't go.

All we have are 3rd and 4th liners available and to get anything substantial you'll have to give up ROSTER players because the "Farm" does not effect the Cap.

Hawks are in a tough place and should probably just play the season out. Losing any more SC Players, with so few left, could really back fire and **** this team.

Fixed for acuracy

2nd, right now there's maybe 2 players I want to see gone: Boynton and Scott. Unfortunately, I know that there's no teams out there shopping used jockstraps, so I think we're stuck with them.

If you can trade Stahlberg and one of Hendry/Boynton/pick/prospect for Sopel I'd do that (assuming they can make it work under the cap).

A like the idea of a Sopel-Leddy pairing.

Right.

Sopels contract would be prorated to $514,337

Skilles contract would be prorated to $132,258

If the Hawks have around $300K in space, they would need to send down Boynton ($110,215) or Hendry ($132,258) which would leave them with around $100K. If Chris is right and the Hawks have 500K it makes the deal even easier, although I'm not sure where he gets the extra $200K from.

Assuming they continue to send down Leddy (yo-yo) and call him back up, that 300K in space could climb a bit.

I'd say just ride out the season and deal with it at the end of the year. No one expected much this year, I have said this from begining that this was a trial and error season, more like let see who is going to be part of the next wave and who's just riding along. If they make playoffs great. If not it they'll be more pumped to get again next year.

Using Capgeek's trade calculator a Stahlberg/Hendry for Sopel trade would work leaving @ 40,000 in cap space. You could send Boynton to the AHL and gain another 166K in cap space.

I don't know if I like the idea of getting rid of Stally. I like his speed, yes his is on a major slump but I hope they try to keep him.

Seabrook traded or signed or both?

Yes I realize the source of the rumor.....

"Rumors flying this afternoon of a deal that would send Brent Seabrook to Edmonton.

This might have started with a radio station report out of Chicago; meanwhile Eklund is tweeting that there might be an extension for Seabrook announced today.

More rumor and innuendo on this than hard information right now. So definitely take it with a block of salt for now.

I will update as I have it."

He actually is going to Edmonton, the Hawks play there tomorrow.

I saw someone post on another site that Seabs is asking for 6 million a year, but I haven't seen it reported anywhere. Anyone else hear that?

I am sure GMs are kicking tires and Seabs name comes up ... hence the rumor mill.
