It just makes no sense to trade our most physical d-man.
If we pay our top 4 d-men $21 million next year, so be it. Unless they can find a taker for Campbell they will either have a highly paid d-core or a poor d-core if they cannot afford it.
Take Seabs out of the equation and we are fucked, softest D-core in the league. Hammer may not hit but he is physical in other ways -- one-on-one battles in front of the net don't show up on the scoresheet, and the guy blocks a ton of shots. I think hes physical enough, just look at the only two d-men last game that were worth a shit, Hammer and Seabs.
Do we need a guy who can hit in order to improve? I say no, we don't. I'd much rather see a Sopel-type physicality added. Look at how the team was doing with Hendry in place of "physical" Boynton. We don't absolutely need more hitting from our defenseman, we need our forwards to play more D and be more physical in place of that.
Last year our d-core was probably considered "soft" looking at the stats. Outside of Seabrook, Hammer was next in line with a whooping 59 hits. This year our D-core as a whole are on pace to beat out last years combined total. Its not about "hits".
