Rumors hot and heavy in the Twitterverse that the Hawks are close to acquiring Mark Stuart from the Boston Bruins.

Reports out of Boston say Hawks might be close to acquiring Bruins defenseman Mark Stuart for draft picks. #blackhawks --Sassone

I would be ecstatic. What does the cap say about this?

Thanks Gene at least someone posts the entire story.

I would imagine if it's for draft picks you would see Boynton gone and maybe Hendry. Clearing space on the big club. With Frolik added they have to be right at the cap.

The thought of Boynton gone gives me a nice warm feeling inside.

Boston Bruins Could Trade Mark Stuart To Chicago Blackhawks, Report Says

The Boston Bruins need to shed cap space to acquire their trade deadline prize, Tomas Kaberle of the Toronto Maple Leafs. It made sense that a forward would be the one to go, considering the Bruins' recent acquisition of Chris Kelly from the Senators. It might be a defenseman, though.

According to Joe Haggerty at CSNNE.com, Mark Stuart could be heading to the Chicago Blackhawks.

The B's are discussing sending rugged defenseman Mark Stuart to the Chicago Blackhawks, who are looking for a little more toughness around their net.

The Stuart deal would net the Bruins a draft pick, and would be strictly for salary cap relief rather than instant roster improvement.

Stuart earns $1.675 million against the salary cap this season. According to the numbers at CapGeek.com, swapping out Stuart and moving in Kaberle wouldn't be compliant with the cap, even despite the Bruins' long-term injury cushion. It would bring them close enough, though, that a minor deal could get them under the cap.

1.65 mil, if they are at the top of the Cap right now there is more than boynton and Hendry needed.

I don't about that if they have to move Hendry too. If a D man goes down then they're fucked.

They have ZERO cap space left. For whom going the other way? For the Hawks to add ANYONE to the Roster one or more ROSTER players will need to be moved.

Hmmmm.... well... and i'm just playing along here but

he's at 1.675 cap hit. Whatever that is prorated... so I would like to see....

Stuart for one of the FWs and a pick, send Leddy down to and it's not quite there depending on the forward but it's close. This could easily happen. (according to NHL numbers) you have a 228k cushion + 558k for Leddy... that's only like 907 to go... (not with all the pro rating but that's stans job.)

So you have options. Hendry, Boynton, Brouwer (not my choice) Stalberg, Bickell, Dowell, Pisani, Frolik, hell even johnson ( I would say Kopecky but we all know that ain't happening).

Any one of them or combo of them plus the right pick... why not. Stuart is a UFA at the end of the season.

I agree its important...but its a move they can make. Not sure if he'd get picked up and I saw he was close to being ready as well.

Boynton can be moved for a 10th rounder (I know..I know)...but hell, Magnus Johansson was traded for a pick.

I would rather have Stuart on the roster who'd play than Johnson sitting "just in case". At this point, Toews, Bolland, Sharp, Kopecky, Dowell - Pisani even, can play center if needed.

BUT, Sharp should be playing Wing and Kopecky sucks at Center.

Which leaves three Centers.

Last year you had Toews, Bolland, Madden and Fraser.... Four bonafied Centers.

Our depth at center once again is glaring as it has the previous years other than last.

Can Sharp play Center, sure. But he's more comfortable at Wing. Kopecky can't play center nor should he be. Pisani should not be playing Center and there's no telling if and when he's coming back. He might have whip lash for the next month or more.

I would have posted more but I was busy checking to see how a Stuart acquisition would effect the Blackhawks playoff odds.

So what... there really isn't a better option, Johnson... really? He's had exactly 0 points in the 10 games he's played is a -4 and averaging 8:56 mins. per game. How exactly is that better than Kopecky at center no matter how bad he is? OoOoO He's better just because he has a C next to his name instead of an RW. Kopecky is a better player, skates better, and has played better. If you even try to point to faceoff percentage I will kick you in the nads. Johnson is good, but he barely takes any Kopecky is bad, but he barely takes any. (compreatively). Faceoff percentage is important but on the 3rd line who cares, it's not like they are getting the important ones. If he wants to play Becky as the third line center fine. Second line, well we all have a problem with that, but Kopecky on the thrid line vs. Johnson on the third line? Where is the difference.

EDIT: You seem to have updated your post while I was responding... Now mine doesn't make as much sense, not that it ever did.

Ok...then go with Hendry and Boynton as number 5...so that they can keep Johnson scratched.

Ideally, yeah it would be great to keep him, but I'd rather have a number 5 Dman that can play.

Yes, Sharp prefers to play wing, but they won the cup with him at center.

And Kopecky wouldnt be taking any of the Dzone draws....it would be Toews, Bolland or Dowell on the ice for anything important

And whats worse...only 3 bonafide centers (with others that can do it if necessary) or only 1 defenceman willing to hit (Seabrook)? Because Keith, Campbell, Hjarllmarsson and Leddy might as well carry purses with them.

As Coach Murray Chadwick would say about this Dgroup - "You guys could skate around with a carton of eggs and not break one!"

Stuarts had 103 hits last year in 56gms (1.83avg) and 56 hits in 31gms (1.80avg)
