This trade could definately work out cap wise. I would love to have Stuart.

I wonder if the Casucks would have interest in Boynton. They've lost 4 D-men to injury in the last 10-14 days.

No Stuart for us:

Dreger-Not official yet, but BOS trading Wheeler and Stuart to ATL for Peverley and Valabik. Pending trade call.

This is definitely going to be very interesting. Pev on the Bruins could certainly turn the tide for Boston and make them an even bigger threat out East.

And Stuart on Atlanta? Yikes, what a deal!

This is one hell of an interesting trade if you ask me.

Edmonton places Sheldon Souray on re-entry waivers... cap hit would be 2.7 mil... do the Hawks go after him? Is it possible with the cap?

Or is he too big and slow? 6'4" 233 lbs.

Boston wanted a player back for Stewart from us. Which is why we didn't end up getting him.

Rumor now is they are looking at Buffalo's Steve Montedor but he's injured and they want to see him play a game.

FWIW....

Montador would be a great pick-up, I would be pretty happy with that.

The Rangers scouted him and thought he was to slow to play in the A, let alone the N.

Montador logged 19:19 last night, did he get injured at the end if the game? Would love to have Montador but Buffalo is only 2 points out of 8th though, are they throwing in the towel already?

Scouts are not beating down the doors to watch the Oilers. There were six in Minnesota including Martin Lapointe and ex-Oilers defenceman Norm Mciver from the Chicago Blackhawks; two from the New York Rangers, Kevin Maxwell and Tom Tompson; Brian MacLellan, Washington Capitals; and John Perpich, Atlanta Thrashers.

In Denver, only Lapointe showed up again. So if you want to connect the dots, the Blackhawks are looking at somebody, probably a third-pairing, penalty-killing defenceman such as Vandermeer.

That would definitely fit with what Stan was telling me at dinner a week ago. Seems what he was looking for was a Dman who could play PK since the 5-6 here don't have that ice time. He wanted to help get the minutes down from the 1-4 d who are playing in every aspect of the game.

Trade talk heating up

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Just a quick update on some trade talk involving the Blackhawks and the defenseman general manager Stan Bowman is trying to add before Monday’s deadline.

As I wrote for Friday’s print edition, according to a source, Tampa Bay’s Brett Clark apparently is in play, but it might cost the Hawks a forward off their present roster.

Clark is a solid and mobile defenseman with a reasonable $1.5 million cap hit on a contract that runs through next season. Clark is averaging 19 minutes a night in Tampa and has 8 goals, 15 assists and is minus-1.

Late on Thursday night by friend Jim Matheson, the Edmonton Journal’s Hall of Fame hockey writer, tweeted Hawks pro scout Martin Lapointe has been following the Oilers. Matheson wrote he believes the Hawks are scouting defensemen Ladislav Smid and Jim Vandermeer.

Smid has a $1.3 million cap hit and would be a restricted free agent after the season. Vandermeer has a cap hit of $2.3 million and would be an unrestricted free agent.

Smid plays 19 minutes for the Oilers and was minus-10 with 9 assists before Thursday’s game. Vandermeer brings toughness and was plus-5 with a goal and 8 assists.

It should be an interesting next four days.

If it were Vandermeer, the Hawks would need to move $ in order to fit him under the cap.

Hawks interested in Clark from TB and Smid or Vandy from the Oilers?

That's the problem with Vandy, like Sopel, the Hawks will have to clear roster space, IE in trade. Over 2 mil.

1.3 for smid could be done by sending Boynton and Hendry down. Will be interesting. NONE of the core are leaving.

Also some interest in Rivet and Matt Hunwick?

"RT @NHLSourcesSay Hearing CHI may take Craig Rivet of re-entry, also looking at 2 players via trade...one being COL Matt Hunwick"

Anybody have an idea what Rivet's cap hit off re-entry will be?

Edit: Also said a move expected soon from the Balckhawks....

Anything to stop the insanity. THe deadline is fun and all but it started so early this year that it's getting long drawn out and overreacting to every little thing. Just make the move and be done with it.
