Anyone give me an idea of who and what Rivet is? I don't really follow much outside the hawks. I know the name and remember seeing him a bit on the ice when he plays the hawks, but that's about it.

D Craig Rivet, who hasn’t played since Jan. 11, was placed on waivers. The 36-year-old has been the Sabres’ captain the last three seasons. He has one goal and two assists in 23 games. He requested a trade, but GM Darcy Regier was unable to accomplish one.

No team would take on his salary in a trade for what amounts to the Sabres 7th-8th dman. He's been a healthy scratch for 17 games, so if you would have watched every Sabre game in the past 6 weeks...oh ****, you get the idea.

Sure it's premature-All Hail Scooter!

I meant in the past, not specifically recently, but I get what you are saying. This will be interesting to me because so far Frolik hasn't lived upto the trade billing, but maybe that was more about Salak? Course Skille isn't really tearing it up in Florida either... but it was still just a meh trade at this point so to me scooter needs to do something to markedly upgrade this team. Or get Frolik's ass in gear.

Frolik has looked good in the last couple of games. GIve him some time to get ready. Some players don't just start producing right away.

Rivet can PK and play physical. The Sabres owner was an ASS so who knows what his intentions were. He certainly wasn't going to eat part of his contract. They guy was a cheap *****. Ask any Sabre fan.

Boyton waived per Pierre LeBrun.

Must be my birthday present from the Blackhawks.

Had to say that.

Bring in Rivet, though and I'd be a happy camper.

Yeah, I'm not giving up on Frolik, I actually like him. I'm just not seeing much difference in him and Skille is all, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm hoping he'll get a goal or two here soon and maybe things will click. Would be nice if we could solidify lines 2-3 (2 mostly is now) so that people can get more comfortable... It's never too late though.

So the new Buff owner is a win for the hawks. nice.

Rivet is better than Sopel (I dont know why Sopel was deemed legendary here).

Rivet also wore the A in MTL...took less money back as a FA to stay in SJ (to play on a winner) and was the Captain in Buffalo and played hurt last season (had surgery this offseason on his shoulder).

He can play 18-20 min a night...not that quick but right handed shot...can play the PP and PK. He's 6'2 220lbs.

I keep hearing about Smid as a possible pick up too....not sure who would be a better fit. Smid is younger and prob more physical

Rivet isn't an upgrade over Boynton so whats the point? They are pretty much the mirror image of each other at this point in their careers. The key words "at this point in their careers".

I don't get it. I don't get what people are seeing in Rivet right now. But if it gets rid of Boynton then sure..so be it. I just don't see the player in Rivet that most see now. Liked him a lot when he was a younger player. Like his leadership ability. But like Boynton the game is passing him by now.

Bring him in and see what he can do as a shut down guy. Why not? Just not going to spring a boner over it.

I checked the numbers and he would fit. If we picked him up we would still be 200k or so under the cap.

I have mixed feeling on this if it were to happen. Overall I think I would be OK with it, low risk.

I guess my question is, at this point, with Boynton already gone, is this guy distinguishably better than bringing someone up from the A?

No Boners getting sprung anywhere...but he's better than Hendry/Boynton.

What are thoughts on Smid....would he be better?

Probably couldn't if you tried.

Picking up Rivet this year, is just like the Hawks picking up Boynton off waivers last year. If Rivet couldn't get playing time on a shit team like Buffalo, what makes people think he would be a good fit here in Chicago? Color me unimpressed. I'd rather have Hendry than either Boynton, or Rivet. They are both ready for retirement. They're both just too fucking slow to play in the NHL at this point.

Looks like the Seabrook deal is about to get done. According to Bob McKenzie, 5 years, just under 30 million.

No better than the used jock strap collection I saw when I was in the Hawks locker room the very first time and the only time I have ever been in there.

As a former Ducks supporter, and since I know of how he is, he was on my shit list secondary to Joffrey Lupul. So hell no! When they got rid of him, well... lets just say I was just as happy when they got rid of Lupul the first time.

Why? He was supposed to be a point guy, but never stood up to par... He's too light to be physical and is decently accurate... not a hard slap shot from what I've seen. I don't even know why he's even in the league to be honest.

I know Rivet is nothing like in his prime, but at the same time, I trust Rivet to do the job moreso over Smid.
