OMG Ryan Johnson sucks. What are the Hawks thinking?

I am all kind of confused right now too. Culli on waivers? Certainly don't love Culli but **** me he hasn't been all too bad lately.

I am weirded out right now. Really? Ryan fucking Johnson? Why?

Guess I have to learn to like the guy before he goes on waivers.

Ryan Johnson played really well in a checking center role Friday against Detroit. Have you not noticed that we are thin at center? I think it's a great move...2-way deal too.

Yes, but you have to account for the initial reaction of him being a Cafuck, and sucking. Until shakes it, he will still suck. Give it a couple more games likes he's played. Ton will settle down a bit. Then he can laugh at Vancouver and say "look what we did with your castoffs"!

At least until he fractures his foot again. I really Liked Johnson, he's a great 4th liner/PK Specialist, but his insane shot blocking ability also makes his extremely prone to injuries. It's a double edged sword, but as long as he remains in the lineup he is solid.

The video interview I saw of him on Blackhawks TV over the weekend led me to believe perhaps he's---to the best of his abilities---taken some preventative measures perhaps with equipment and maybe even playing decisions? To paraphrase, he said there is no way he wants to revisit the agony of the past two years with his serious feet troubles. So cross our fingers, lol.

he had some custom skate guards created last season, it worked for a while, but then he didn't wear them one game, and brok his foot again
<
the hawks better have the trainers make sure the guards are on at all times.

Kane on IR.

With Morin being hurt could it possibly be Kyle Beach time? Players on IR do NOT count against the cap, correct?

No, A player on IR always counts towards the cap. But f it's LTIR then the team is given cap relief in the amount of kane's current salary minus the residual cap space.

For example, the current payroll is $54,939,822 with $302,425 of space. if Kane is on LTIR, then the LTIR relief the team gets is Kane's hit ($6,300,000) minus the residual cap space ($302,425) meaning the team can have a payroll of up to $61,239,822 ($6,300,000 of cap space).

More than enough space to bring up whoever they want from the farm.

There is a penalty the following year when LTIR is used. Which is why the Hawks never used LTIR last year with either Hossa or Campbell. IR allows them to open a roster space. Which is why Hossa was put on it when they signed Johnson.

If Kane is back tonight don't the Hawks still ahve an extra "body" on the roster now? Cullimore still on waivers?

So confusing.

ummm, no. LTIR does not give a penalty the following year, not sure where you grabbed that little ditty from. The reason teams don't place players on LTIR is because they are unavailable for 24 days or 10 games. If the team thinks the player might be back before then then they wouldn't place them on it. Plus the Hawks didn't need the cap relief last season.

The only way LTIR can result in cap penalties is if they are close to the cap limit and then players earn their bonuses that year and they are forced to defer them to next season (like Toews and Kane). There is no penalty for using LTIR directly, only a potential for an indirect penalty through bonus achievement.

You sure about that? I could have sworn the Leafs were penalized Cap wise this year directly due to players being on LTIR last year.

1000% sure.

questions 4 and 6 cover it. I could also point you to the CBA sections, but they already do that for me
<

The leafs were penalized for sucking major ass and trading away their #2 overall pick for an mid level forward... or something like that.

That was besides the point. I'll find what I was reading here eventually. Which is why the Hawks don't or have yet to use LTIR. They could have easily used it last year with Hossa and never did. They could have used it this year with Hossa and never did.

I would be interested in seeing the resoning behind it, but it's definately not a penalty related issue... at least not directly.

James Wisnieski traded to Montreal for a 2nd and 5th round pick.

What's the salary floor?

Isles have to be close.

wow.

Jim this goes in the NHL rumors, not Hawk Talk rumors. Unless of course Wiz was coming back to Chicago.

I would have never saw this coming. The Islanders now suck just a little more and I didn't now that would be possible.

They just traded their Alternate Captain. LOL
