My favorite teams
Carlton Smith on the mound.
Jackson might be starting to figure out AAA given his past 10 games with a .429/.512/.800 slash line. The most encouraging thing is the 7 BBs to 8 Ks. 8 Ks in 35 ABs is still a pretty high rate, but it is much better than the 40-50% rate he was at earlier in his callup.
Speaking of another recent AAA callup, Nicholas Struck is starting to emerge as an interesting arm in the system. The kid is 21 years old and pitching in an extremely hitter friendly league. A 3.93 ERA isn't amazing, but considering the guy started the year in high A I think it is pretty impressive.
Jackson keeps hitting the ball as he homer twice yesterday and his average is now .291. Waiting for the call-up...that's why Byrd shoulda been traded. His stock was high and now it'll drop opening the offseason.
So we all agree that we want Colvin starting in RF next year?
Well I wouldn't mind adding another guy that works the count like Swisher, but my point was more that moving Byrd wasn't so much opening Jackson to play CF as opening Colvin to play RF. I don't think that is a great thing myself, and like that Byrd is still here for right now. If next season is a repeat of this year there ought to be a market for Byrd, and I would rather the Cubs enjoy the majority of the benefits of one of the few good free agent contracts that Jim Hendry has issued (seriously Byrd has to be number 2 to Ted Lilly in that category).
Byrd been a decent guy. Again to me he just AVG at everything.
I agree he isn't special, but he isn't paid to be special either. My only point was that moving Byrd now meant that Colvin was pretty much locked into playing RF which at this point is far from a good thing.
Colvin - Jackson - Szczur
Vitters - Castro - Barney - Big Name FA
Soto/Castillo
I'd like to see this in 2013/2014.
