B-Jax's first AAA hit is a towering double.

Zeke DeVoss played the field for the first time I am aware of in Arizona yesterday, and he was playing 2B. Interesting development that a guy that I thought was primarilary in OF in college and drafted as an OF would get his first time in the field at 2B. Be interesting to see if this is a continuing trend.

That is interesting. Def when the Cubs don't need MI. Also, he's still labled as an OF.

Go against the grain of the defensive spectrum, see what happens.

JH trade an OF and call him up. It looks like his time has come.

Hitting and hitting for power isn't exactly a surprise in the PCL, which is perhaps the most hitter friendly league in all of baseball. He is still striking out at a pretty high rate. That doesn't mean that he can't be productive player (lots of very productive players strike out a lot), but it is a concern when moving up to a level that combines pitchers with great stuff and great control.

Jay Jackson might have quietly turned the corner in AAA. With his 3 straight solid outing, he has finally lowered his ERA below 6. In his 3 starts in July his ERA is 1.69 with 15 K to 6 BB. Guy is probably never going to be a front of the rotation guy, but maybe there is still hope that he could be a serviceable arm at the backend, which we've seen the value of those guys this year.

Roster moves...

Austin Bibens-Dirkx was sent to Double A from Triple A.
Marquez Smith was placed on the 7 day DL for Triple A.
Pierre LePage placed on the 7 day DL for Peoria.
OF Taiwan Easterling was assigned to Peoria from AZL Cubs.

DeVoss being moved to second seems to be more than a passing fancy since he has played 3 games in a row at 2B now. Interesting to see if he can stick there because his value will only increase if he can play 2B passably.

Zeke DeVoss promoted to Boise Hawks...dab he's playing 2nd again, while leading off.

Anyone know if he played this in college at all. It seems like this has been the plan all along with DeVoss which makes some sense given the amount of talented OFs we have. Just is kind of odd to see an OF going to the IF versus the other way around.

Yes I believe he has...Unniversity of Miami's page regarding Zeke DeVoss has him listed as an OF/INF.

That makes a lot more sense. He was drafted as an OF and the highlights from the College World Series that I saw were all in the OF so I wasn't sure. Definitely would be more valuable if he can play 2B well then as a CF, especially given the number of high level prospects we have that play CF (Jackson, Ha, Sczcur).

Yeah the page says DeVoss was the only player to start in all game, playing both the OF and INF.

DeVoss led the game off with a walk, stole 2nd, stole 3rd and eventually scored on a bases loaded walk. Good way to start a new league.

Logan Watkins is playing himself into being an interesting prospect. The 22 year old 2B started the year terribly, but has made a few mechanical changes in his swing. And is now tearing up the Florida State League for the second month in a row. Here is his month by month slash line:
April-.138/.243/.169
May-.241/.323/.349
June-.433/.519/.552
July-.366/.425/.549

Not a ton of power with only 1 homerun, but has some wheels with 13 SB to 3 CS.

Speaking of 2B, Zeke DeVoss has put up the following line in his first 3 games at Boise:
.444/.615/.444 and 6 SB to 1 CS. Perhaps a move to Peoria isn't out of the question this year...

So there's this Dave Bush guy and he's pitching pretty well so far, maybe we should call him up.

I have had my eye on Watkins and LePage, another 2B but he's on the DL right now.
