Assuming they are targeting Bart, I would assume Contreras could be on the move as well..
Nah, like Tepera or Davies. It wouldn't make sense for the Giants to get Contreras when they have Posey crushing it.

Catchers can play numerous other positions, so having two just adds flexibility.

Yeah my bad I didn't mean in this trade. But if we got Bart, Contreras could be traded in the future

July 28: Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic tweets that the Giants are “backing off” any proposals from the Cubs which center around Bart.

The San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser recently reported that among Giants top prospects, Bart may be the “most” available, but that doesn’t means the club is flat-out shopping him or willing to include him for a high-priced rental player such as Bryant (or the majority of Chicago’s other trade candidates).

Ya 'rental'

I have said this for a while now. A rental normally does not get a top 100 player.

2016 rental was to break a 'curse'.

We have to remember that Bryant is a top end player. Like Manny Machado is on SD. But he is not a generational talent like Tatis Jr.

Teams are not going to flock up like they are doing for Max right now. Pitching>hitting at the deadline. Max changes the dynamic of a team in a series. Kris gets up to the plate 1 out of 9 times.

That is why control>rental. It is unusual cases that teams target rentals and it has to do with drapping payroll at season end vs gaining talent.

I'm hoping this deadline doesn't turn into a bust. I'd like to see Bryant, kimbrel, tepera and Davies moved at least. I hope rizzo goes too. It appears baez is drawing pretty much no interest unfortunately

With the returns teams are getting and lots of teams from the NLW and NLE being in on the same players, the cubs are actually sitting pretty right now.

Hope so. I'm figuring after Max falls the other two teams will react in the NLW race.

SF I doubt will be a solid trade partner. They want control in return.

LAD I see all in on Max.

SDP really needs to focus on removing Hosmer right now.

I do see SD as the best match up but contract will have to be moved from both sides.

All 3 could use Kimbrel. Potentially all 3 could use Bryant too. Tepera should get a decent return somewhere too. Hopefully someone will get in on Rizzo. If anyone is interested in Davies, then take what you can get

Looks like Houston is going cheaper on closer.

I would love SD to get Ballzy and trade

Hosmer, Meyers and CJ. 43.5M out.

Bryant, Kimbrel and Davies 34M in.

Cubs get a LF and a 1B replacement for 2022. Get a studd SS.

Padres move contract to avoid losing draft picks. Then add the best closer, best hitter and rotation depth. They have been on and off in injury.

Right now they are a top 8 team. That move puts tbem into the top 2 if not team to beat.

Cubs better get more prospects than that in that trade.

Now the reason why the Cubs maybe good next year in the after math is Thompson and Steel both got a taste this year. Both have been moved to Iowa to start.

That puts the rotation of controlled at:

Hendricks, Alzolay, Williams, Steel and Thompson.

They would have the big gun pending and Abbott most likely pushed into late innings.

Over all Jed might be able to compete next year and get a strong filter of talent infused and pending.
