'To late to cry about it now Willie'

I don't agree with your comment at all.
Contreras and Baez should be kept because no matter the score they will try do the right thing, and hustle, ALWAYS!
The rest? It all depends witch way the wind blows.

This “core” went to shit after the WS and the sell off is the end result. They had their chances.

Willy should be retained. What he said is fine. I don't agree with Javy because that is just we are boys talk.

The Cubs can push out a competitive team in 2022. Move Javy, Bryant, Rizzo and Davies. All are on short term.

Contreras, Joc, Arrieta, Williams and Kimbrel all have 1 year of control. Each are case by case.

Happ has 2 years of control. His value is suppressed so it makes sense to rebuild it next year.

Contreras can say what he wants. Jed has control and if he puts up a team that competes Wilson most likely will be happy because it is about winning. If the suck then we will see another round of trades,

I’m just glad you are smarter than people who do it for a living. We of the 4 teams selling have the only SS 3b and closer anybody wants. Braves obviously aren’t in sell mode. They don’t have any pitchers or positions players that could be moved at all. Just muh 4 teams. 3 weeks before the deadline and Nostradamus knows where each player is going lol. Get a job in the league rain man

ill take things never said for 1,000, Alex! Learn to read you jabroni

I agree. It would just help if Baez knew what the fuck a strike really was. And it isn't 12 inches out of the strike zone.

Jesse Rogers thinks Mets could pursue Bryant. Also predicts Bryant, Baez, Rizzo on roster on August 1:

Thatd be a fucking disaster if they couldn't unload any of those 3

If the compensation on the QO draft pick is higher than the mid season return then it makes sense. Especially now since draft picks are tradeable.

true but we also don’t 100% know that QO will still exist with the bargaining coming up

It would be, but it takes at least two teams to make a trade. If they can't find any acceptable offers.....very possible given the contract situation and the fact that only Bryant is having a particularly strong year..... it just might be best to take the QO compensation. I mean it's cheesy way for Hoyer to back into a rebuild after claiming he's not doing so. But, you got to start somewhere.

Swear I call it like it is. This team is not in the same situation at 2012. It was so obvious that anyone could have seen it.

But no. burn it. Trash it all. Etc etc.

The Cubs generate 500M per year. They can support a 200M team. The only reason why payroll went down was COVID killing the revenues. That is why Darvish was traded. It was not to bring back 2012 baby. It was to make the team fiscally responsible.

I would call it conservative values. Other teams figured short term loss means long term gain and plowed ahead. Those team are getting pay off for their aggressive behavior.

So in view of this lets call a spade a spade.

They will sell short term players.
They will reload.
They will contend in 2022.

End of story.

It is interesting how this is playing out. I have to respect Jed for not taking trash back just to off load.

Mid season trades are to off load contract. The Cubs are making enough to support the team.

If they don't trade them. Bryant is equal to a 2nd round pick. Baez I could see taking the QO. Rizzo Jed might give a retirement deal to to keep his team captain a lifer Cub.

I feel that this is a fair expectation.

The worst scenario is Jed offloading for players that never put on a Cubs uni. That would be a waste.

What I felt was pretty cool was MLB.TV talked to Kris and asked him the big question. Which position would you stick at. Kris was strait. CF.

Teams will take notice when dealing with Boras. Kris is a CF going forward.

Rizzo is going to fall off a cliff soon. I hope we don't give him the contract he wants. I love what he did for us, but that is the past

Maybe. Does it matter though?

If they are just planning to filter in youth why not. At most he givrs 110 wRC+ and some leadership and guidence to the kids.

The other option is move Wisdom there. Or Happ. Happ will get bumped for Davis. Shoot after the futures game Jed may be forced to push his button early.

Regardless I can see it being reasonable to extend Rizzo 5/100. Keep him around until the next wave takes over. Baez on the other hand just QO. Jed is deep at SS. The market is deep at SS. Javy lacks leverage this offseason to demand jack.

The market will be on Corea like stink on. Story will also get attraction. Javy has holes and ATM a one trick pony that strikes out far more then he should.

The only reason it makes any sense to give Rizzo 15-20 mil per for 3-5 years is knowing the DH is almost guaranteed in 2022. Maybe letting him not have to field helps his back stay okay longer. But, if you can get a decent prospect or two, you pull that trigger

Back issues is a fair arguement against.

Being a DH doesn't ommit back issues. I sit in a truck and stand alot. Worse on my back. Walking route before. Less back issues. So moving around is better not worse

He most likely has bulging discs and the best cure is strengthing the core and keeping inshape.

No reason to keep any of them. Just a matter of when you deal them or let them walk. After 2016, the Core rotted from the inside out. You don’t want any of them to be around the next crop of younger players to be honest.

Rizzo is not the leader we thought he was. I wouldn't keep him around.
