If they make the playoffs, and it looks like they will, Carcillo may definitely still play.

I mean if he did, it would be a very quick recovery since it was originally 6 months according to the Hawks.

About the only thing I think I don't like about this is the fact that if anyone whould have been extended before Carbomb, it should have been Mayers.

Other than that, sub 1M cap hit...2 more years...and has done more good then bad when we've iced him.

I like. A lot.

Oduya is UFA after the season is over.

So is Mayers... so was Carcillo. I don't see why they wouldn't try and sign them. Wouldn't be a first time a UFA re-signed with their team before July 1st.

Brunette, OD, Lepisto, and the rest of the dead weight UFA's can go. I'm mixed on Emery, depends on a lot, certainly not dead weight but also may not be necessary depending on a few factors and price.

Who knows if they haven't been in talks with Mayers but it's been a longer negotiation then it was for Carcillo?

I think if anything, it has more to do with the fact that Mayers is playing the games and needs to be focused (no players like negotiating contracts after the trade deadline) while Carcillo is still recovering.

Like I said, for some prospects it is necessary because they are suited for the top 2 lines... but as far as Hayes and Shaw, they're best suited for the bottom two lines anyway... that is their role and potential IMO. For McNeill, Pirri, Saad, and a handful of others I agree they need the minutes because they are not suited as bottom line players and that is not where they will find success.

I would never have thought Shaw would make the NHL in his first year of pro hockey. Shit, I expected Rob Flick to have more success early in his career than Shaw. Instead, Shaw in in the NHL and Flick is in the AHL after starting in the ECHL.

Guys have developed past what people thought their initial potential was going to be. Is Shaw going to be a top 2 line player? Probably not, but at least let him have the chance to get that kind of development.

Typically the player doesn't negotiate the contract, but I know what you're saying...

Haha no shit, you know what I meant. It's still a distraction for some, Seabrook talked about it when he signed his deal, most are involved.

Agreed 110%...I think Mayers and Oduya are pieces we need...I do like Emery and thought Lepisto was "meh" (not as bad as people tend to say.) Those other players are a waste of a sweater.

With Fehr already posturing by getting the union to vote down conference re-alignment and the CBA expiring and lots of teams losing money now I can easily see an impasse coming anyway.

I agree with you on the dead weight. As far as Emery goes, it will depend on what he does in the playoffs, well if he starts or not. And I know I have said this time and time again, the guy I am not sold on is Crawford, I just think he is very much like Lou where you can get in his head very easily. I don't think its his soph. slump like many suggest. I think this is what to expect again thats just me seeing it. I really don't like that signing they should have waited for this year to end and not jump on it after last years playoffs when no one really new much about him. We shall see next year, and if he is playing like he is this year, will he be gone by trade deadline???

I was just pointing out he was a UFA. I think it would be dependent on the Money he was asking, after all he is making 3.5 mil right now.

Either way many are suggesting the Cap is coming down. On both sides. I think that will definitely have an impact on contracts. Another reason they were not happy with all the money the Oilers threw at Hemsky. 5 mil per year.

It's more so the suggestion that the cap floor will come down while the ceiling will probably remain where it is at with no raise.

Probably the right thing to do in my opinion. Might keep some lower level players from getting inflated contracts as a means for teams to hit the floor. Im sure the players union don't like the idea but it appears to be something that needs to happen.

The hit for Carcillo is pretty much nothing. I am okay with this and I don't think it's going to take a roster spot away from anyone on the farm or a young player if anyone is worried about that.

Carcillo had a nice chemistry with Kane and Hossa. He cleared the lane for them, went in the corners for the puck and was good in the crease to mess up the goalie.

The screen set up by him was perfect for this pass.

I like the signing as long as it isn't that big of a Cap hit. We still need some weight up front with talent.

Who knows? I just have a gut feeling that no matter who starts and #1 next year...the backup will likley have taken over by season's end (as is the pattern). I would say in this case, find some goalie that can weather about 60 or so games without us bottoming out in the standings, then put Crawford in for the last 20 or so.
