[A] Hawks Extend Carcillo for Two Years

yea I wasn't including most of the minor leaguers. Most of them will get done as none are really ready for the show, minus maybe Smith and Bolland.

Makarov is a goner. Hutton will probably get done and until two weeks ago was IceHog property. I think we are pretty good this year and next contract wise.

Oduya could be like Campoli and just way over value himself. Although I do believe he and Mayers will JUMP at the chance to stay with this talented core and try to get their name on the Cup. Although I thought that with Campoli and he turned out to be a greedy SOB. And he know it that game back here too. Big Mistako.

It just seems to me:

This year...Crawford starts at #1--Emery replaces him.

Last year, Turco starts at 1, Crawford replaces him

Year before, Huet starts as 1, Niemi replaces him

Year before, Huet starts as #1, Khabi replaces him

I do think it might be a soph slump as it were. I think Craw, like Niemi, falls under the "good enough" banner. I'm just worried if the trend continues, we could have freaking Lundqvist in net to start the season and he'll be bailed on so bad that we end up with Ken Simpson coming in as backup and all of a sudden the D shows up in front of him and he takes the starting job.

Q did not help him out in that first Alberta trip. You don't just jack the shit out of your number one goalie like that. Ask Belfour his thoughts on Keenan for doing that.

Carter Hutton has been absolutely on fire in Rockford. Not sure he's ready but he's single handedly almost saved their pathetic season where they actually have a chance to make the AHL playoffs. Now it's just the AHL but who knows.

Yeah I only saw Hutton play in the "Have a Skate with Bob" game and he was REALLY sharp, sound mechanically, etc and was called on a lot that night. Like you said tho it's AHL...

I've seen him on the tube a couple of times since then. Realistically he was the only reason they were in that game we were all at. Infact if not for Koharsky Jrs bullshit all they'd have won the game IMO.

Crawford vs Mason....

Year 1 -

Crwfrd - 57gms - 33-18-6 - 2.30ga - 1545shots - 1417sv - .917% - 4so (27.1 shots against per gm)

Mason - 61gms - 30-20-7 - 2.29ga - 1658shots - 1518sv - .916& - 10so (27.2 shots against per gm)

Year 2 -

Crwfrd - 46gms - 22-16-5 - 2.94ga - 1255shots - 1129sv - .900% - 0so (27.3 shots against per gm)

Mason - 58gms - 20-26-9 - 3.05ga - 1653shots - 1490sv - .901% - 5so (28.5 shots against per gm)

As far as some of the others mentioned..

Fleury - Came right into the league the year drafted as a 20yr old and improved every year (one down year in 2010 when he had a .905%/2.65ga)

Price - Came into the league as a 20yr old. His down year was a .905/2.83ga..and been successful in MTL, nonetheless

Kiprusoff - Was a backup in SJ as a 25/26 year old...went to CAL and had a .933%, .923%, .917% - 21 shutouts over that span - I would say that "establishes" himself

Miller - Started as a 25yr old (yr after lockout)....914%, .911%, .906% (The 'down' year...where he started 76gms and had a 2.64ga)

Lethonen - .906% his first year in 38gms as a 22yr old...then hasn't been below .911%

Niemi didn't have much of a season last year, and would have been replaced by Crawford.

Let's not forget that our defense hasn't played well this entire season. There have been quite a few goals where I don't think Crawford had a chance because of the lack of defensive presence.

Hawks need to fix the 2nd line C situation and bring in another physical Dman who can play a regular shift, not this O'Donnell bullshit.

Just like a real job, a 2nd line C or a physical D-man isn't coming here on the cheap. Stan refuses to give them their moneys worth / goes after them and fails miserably / assumes we have plenty of both and we get screwed as a result.

Hate to say this, but maybe DT was right with his approach...

Huh?

There was really only one Center available during the off season and he's making 9 mil this year alone. Not sure Stan is to be blamed for the 2nd line Center other than he hasn't emphesized to Q, in playing Sharp there which really, was the best option.

And I love Dale but this team has been weak at top line Centers since before Dale arrived.

If you could get Kubina, Jackman or Sarich for a year or two that would be great for our defense. Seabs wouldnt have to log such heavy minutes against the oppositions top line, and we could bring in some physicality from the back end.

Only 2nd line centers I can see this off season are Hudler and Stoll. Maybe we can bring Pirri up and have him tryout for that slot.

Or put Sharpie there.

I think there will be a lot of options, especially with Huet coming off the books.

Also depends on the CBA and far to early to speculate what next off season brings.

We'll see how McNeil does in camp.

I think it's pretty obvious they have no intention of playing Sharp there. Even though this team won a Stanley Cup with him there.

Whats that, an extra $3-5M? We could easily net a d-man at that price.

Niemi started off slow with the new team but was LIGHTS OUT during the last part.

until those pesky playoffs rolled around, then he looked like he did in the Philly series lol.

But a big part of Sharp being successful that year at center, was the depth at wings. Hawks top 3 lines of wingers could or already to play on any teams top 6 forwards. The Cup year, Toews was the only top 2 center on the team. Sharp, Hossa, Kane, Byfuglien, Ladd, Versteeg..are all first line players. Hell, even Kopecky is top 6 minutes in FLA.

I don't think the Hawks will be able to get a center via FA...but they need one. I'd like to see Stastny or Weiss targeted with Bolland being the centerpiece going back.
