Both. PHX played that game plan to a "T" and did not deviate. The 'Hawks were able to generate chances and not finish. Such is playoff hockey...Oh and lack of a PP was a strong killer for the 'Hawks as well.



Could you imagine of the 'Hawks played Philly in round one and played the way they did? I think they would have swept them with how bad the goaltending was in that series and how loosey goosey Philly played.

I disagree. Their Defense sucks and goal tending is worse than ours. Would have been a run and gun series.

I'm going to have to agree with RK on this one, the Hawks have always struggled getting that first one for some reason, but then the flood gates open. Since that whole series the flood gates seem to be open from the puck drop I think the hawks would have rolled. I don't really remember the hawks losing too many games from being blown out goal wise? Maybe I"m misremembering. I just feel like if it's a shootout the hawks win. If it's low tight grinders they struggle.

That's because not many teams have the up front talent the Hawks do to play that type of game. So the tight games or teams like Nashville/Phoenix we have problems with. Or have in the past. Hard to play both styles. Penguins had that problem with the Flyers. We played it pretty well against Phoenix just didn't over come and win more than losing.

Sticking to my guns on the Flyers, not only would they have offensively matched us blow for blow, they are 100 times more physical.

And that is Philly's problem is that they try to play loosey goosey and tough. Doing so tends to get many players out of position often. With a crap backend and goalie...that is a recipe for disaster for a puck control\quick strike team with scoring talent.

thats true but they are also hitting the opposition with talent now. Guys like Giroux are a special breed. They have become a team that has incredible talent and a hacky attitude. Goalkeeping and defense indeed sucks and could be their downfall yet again.

That is the interesting thing with them is that they had the scoring before...and rather than correct the back end (unless they felt Pronger had many more years in him to dominate), they added more scoring.
