Soriano is one of the worst fielders in baseball right now defensively. I can't think of many other guys I wouldn't take over him. Lol

Soriano is the type of guy that would get to 6 and make an error on 1. Which compared to other LFers is still good.

Soriano isn't a great fielder because he plays LF. LFers suck. He was great because in comparison to other LFers he was really awesome. That's where he gets his value.

A .833 fielding percentage is good?

Define "awesome." I think Tony Campana is awesome, but that doesn't make him a top 10 player this year. Soriano was good and has been decent throughout his contract, but when the Cubs or any team sign a player to a long term deal, it usually doesn't end well.

That is totally missing the point. *sigh*

Those aren't exact numbers. The point is that Soriano has plus range, but makes the boneheaded plays that make him look bad. At least thats what I was working towards.

Not irrelevant at all. He sucks now and in 2007 he was still below-average at best. He's just simply not good in the outfield.

How was he below average at best? He was a beast in LF in 07. He is not a good outfielder, that's correct. He is a good LFer, though.

So... basically, as FirstTimer already said, Roberto Luongo?

Also, DEFENSE IS WHAT MAKES SORIANO BETTER THAN DUNN! DEFENSE YOU MORON NOT AVERAGE OR SB, DEFENSE

Oh wow...there is clearly no point to argue with this guy lol. Seriously, I can't believe what I've been reading from this guy. Then, he's got the stones to insult people, something that he's done here before.

I'm done arguing with this clown, like I said before...you can't argue with someone who thinks they know everything

He needs to be banned lol

So his range is essentially useless as it allows him to actually create more boneheaded plays than the average fielder would. Not only that, range doesn't do me any good if I trouble judging the ball and how to get there and once I do get there I'm more prone to **** up than the average fielder.

And there's the problem that makes Soriano not one of the 10 best players in the MLB in 2007.

We aren't judging Sori in relative terms to other LF'ers we are judging him in relation to every player in the majors...which he wasn't in the top 10 of.

His contract has absolutely no barring on whether he has been good or not. Yes, it is going to end terribly. Yes, we knew this would happen. But Soriano got us to the playoffs like he was supposed to in 07 and 08.

He was awesome because he was a top 3 defender in LF. Which because it's LF isn't saying a lot. However, that's how he got his value. Because all other LFers suck.

So wait, are you telling me that if you have 10 pieces of bread, and all are moldy, but one is a little less moldy than the others, that it is great?

More contradicting comments... :turrible:

No, it's not at all. If you pool all the OFers in baseball together, Soriano is going to be toward the bottom. However, when you pool all the LFers together, he is going to be near the top. LFers suck. There is basically no competition there.

Let me guess. Range Factor?
