Ryan Dempster Statistics and History - Baseball-Reference.com

Dempster's career norm is an average starter who could be a fifth starter for just about any team, so I guess he'd still bring something back :D

What are we calling his career norm? His career stats using all seasons which include years where he was relieving and coming back from injury? His numbers as a starter in Chicago are pretty solid even with the off year last year.

I don't know what Captain Serious was talking about but I don't think he did either.

Especially not with the CBA changes. Which is why I think Dempster might stay a Cub for a while.

Compensation would seem like the most likely way to maximize the Cubs return for Dempster at this point given the NTC (10/5 rights whatever you want to call it). That said if the second wildcard keeps more teams from selling, and the Cubs could profit from a sellers market. The odds aren't in the Cubs favor given the fact that Dempster can really limit what the Cubs can do, but to say that it is impossible the Cubs get useful pieces for Dempster is a bit of a stretch.

his norm is probably what we could consider his relative average to be with the cubs...

Well that is about as much of a non-update as one could get.

Heres the thing. I want to upgrade the sox rotation. IMO the sox should really push hard for this. Demp would go to a team with potential, stay in chicago and for the sox they can send stewart down and have humber long relief. you would essentially improve the rotation and bullpen with 1 move.

Peavy
Sale
Demp
Danks
Floyd

I would :fap: to that.

Okay. What are you gonna give to the Cubs that would be worth it? :D

are you an idiot? he isnt felix hernandez. he isnt a starting pitcher that is amazing that is under contract.

A deal for a pitcher of his ilk will not fleece any team unless its a desperate team

The fact that the CBA prevents the new team from grabbing compensatory draft picks also deflates Dempster's value in trade. They'll do this closer to the deadline when teams are more desperate. Dempster potentially doesn't even leave until the August waiver deadline. He might not even leave at all because of the arbitration/compensation thing I mentioned earlier.

True, but if there are any other teams interested, the Sox will easily be outbid... there isn't a single spec the Sox have that I care for.

Yeah, he won't get top 'spects in return but a deal elsewhere will get a better deal still.
