I can't give up Molina on the deal unless the Cubs are covering the salary of Dempster. Even then I would have to think about it.

I think the Yankees would beat that offer if Dempster is the best available SP at the deadline and they are making a move to get back into. Jordan Danks does nothing for me as a little power, decent OBP OF. Molina is about the only guy in the minors that is even the slightest bit intriguing to me and the results for him have been pretty bad this year to be honest.

I completely agree. The thing is Molina replaces Jake next year. If dempster did a two year 12-14 million extension then I can do it

The real issue is that you guys don't have that many pieces to trade, and to get anything besides salary dumps you guys are going to have to part with things you don't want to. In the past KW has been willing to do that, but it will be interesting to see this year because a part from guys already at the major league level there isn't much there.

The one thing the White Six have got going for them is that Dempster holds all the cards and wants to stay in Chicago

That is true. Dempster could certainly skew the return by steering where he lands away from best possible return. A lot suggests that Dempster won't do that, but we won't know until the time comes.

The Cubs will likely toss mone in too, it seems on all trade deadline trades money is involved. Not too much, but a few million.

A lot depends on who is available come the deadline. If there is 5 or 6 starters available stock will go down for demp.

As far as the peavy comment, there is a team option 22 million that the sox should never excercise and a 4 million dollar buyout. he stated a few weeks back that he owes the sox for being a disappointment so who knows, you may see him back here next year.

If you can't include Nestor Molina then I don't see how you are going to get a deal done if there are other teams after him. Dempster already sold his house in Chicago (per somewhere, I heard it a few days ago).

Someone has been saying this for most of the thread

However, as it stands at the moment Ryan Dempster has a solid chance at being the best available pitcher. Greinke and McCarthy are both possibilities, but like Dempster both are FA to be. Unless Mariners are going to make King Felix available, Dempster might be the best in a down pitcher market.

Dempster denied a report hinting he sold his Chicago home because he knows he won't be around too long.

"It was up for sale because I bought a different house," he said.

you should really investigate the full story.

google FTW

Since the deal would be made at about the halfway point, 3 million would probably be about half of what Dempster has left remaining on his deal. I wouldn't be so quick to rule something out. I am not going to declare your statement incorrect because as I've been saying a lot depends on a number of factors we don't know and probably will never know.

Yes, I read. I was referring to brett05 saying he couldn't include Molina in a deal.

You're fucking high if you think you're getting a semi top prospect for him.

I'm glad that we have your expertise to tell us the market value of players heading into a completely different market from any previous trading deadline. It is such a shame that you have to waste your talents when there are so many front offices that could use your analysis.

You have to wonder whether the future draft pick(s) that could come from Dempster declining the qualifying offer would be more or less valuable than whatever he'd get back at the deadline in a trade. That has to be a huge consideration as well.

Also risk he accepts qualifying offer.

Does anyone know for certain that Dempster qualifies for compensation in the new CBA given his terrible season last year or not?
