Also risk he accepts qualifying offer.

If he does, he's a $12MM pitcher for one season and at his skill level it's probably worth it anyway.

Hamels, Garza, Samardzija, Dempster, Maholm would be a fine rotation for next year, but I am a :homer:

As of right now, Dempster is prolly a Type A free agent.

Yah I know, pretty much a post in agreeing with him.

You wrote in a contradictory fashion, so it didn't sound like you were trying to agree with him. Sounded like you misread what he said. My bad.

Jed Hoyer does sound like a smart (I know it's obvious, but still...). He said they will make trades, but it's too early to trade players as they won't get as much since teams aren't desperate and he does not know if teams will be sellers or buyers.

Also, he said we're not gunna make moves to make moves since the team is struggling. If you do that, you always lose and make mistakes.

No more Type A or B. You either assume Dempster is a better than $12MM/year player or not to get that comp pick now.

So there is no formula to determine whether the guy qualified or not?

Nope. Front office has to gauge the market and see whether the guy would just take that deal or test the market.

Yeah I think that makes it more likely that the Cubs hold onto him, but it certainly is interesting to see if the Cubs go with the bird in a hand on this one.

But Dempster won't give away his no trade rights either. He's a million times smarter than Dwight Howard

If you can't include Nestor Molina then I don't see how you are going to get a deal done if there are other teams after him. Dempster already sold his house in Chicago (per somewhere, I heard it a few days ago).

He did sell. But he said he sold not because he's moving. That was his old home

I'm sure Dempster will have a say in where he goes. The question is how inflexible is Dempster going to be. Is he going to only accept a deal to White Sox? Is he going to accept a deal to a team that is a virtual lock to make the postseason? Is he going to accept any deal?

None of us know the answer to those questions. There have been some indicators that he isn't going to be completely unwilling to accept a deal, but really it is all guesswork until a deal does or does not happen.

All indications and reports are that he'll waive it
