I'd knock on Toronto's door. They're only two games out of first at the moment and they have a deep farm system. Hopefully they stay close so they feel the desperation to splurge in order to stay in that second wild card spot. They can absorb the hit better than Tampa Bay could.

Wait a moment.

1) Every player with a NTC is open to trade
2) Dempster will not do it for free, nor should he.

1) Well duh

2) Everything points to Dempster being willing to go. He has often stated his appreciation for what the Cubs have done for him, and that he wants to do what is best for the organization. He has said that pretty much directly multiple times now. When the time comes could he hold the Cubs hostage? Sure, but everything right now points to the Cubs being able to move him to the team that offers the most.

I don't see Toronto settling for Dempster though due to the deep farm system and where that team is at. I think they would hold out for Garza. I think Baltimore might be a better match since they are signing Jamie Moyer. They seem a bit more desperate.

So the same story that every player except for maybe like two has always said.

Gammons was on MLB Network and just said that the Yankees will be out of the bidding for Garza due to Pettite. Take it for what it's worth.

If the Yankees prospects aren't that good (I think some of them might also have injury issues but I haven't followed up) then I guess it doesn't matter anyway. I think the best trade partner for either Dempster or Garza should be Toronto. They have the depth and the resources to handle it.

I agree that TO is the better trade partner out of the choices in the AL East, though if the Orioles want to dangle Dylan Bundy . It is just that having the Yankees involved increases the amount that the Cubs will get. Having less teams interested in Garza is a bad thing.

I think if the W. Sox were to say they were interested and Dempster knew it, all other teams would be out of the running

The question remains, who in the Sox farm system would Theo get? I'm sure it'd be most convenient for Dempster to play for the Sox but at the same time the Cubs have to get something of substance back.

Ah no they don't. Just need to be willing to trade him. Sox need to offer something worth a sandwich pick especially since they don't want to offer Ryan arb is my guess

like what? he isnt worth a jordan danks or jarrod mitchell. he maybe worth a bp arm like jones who can throw in the upper 90s but a FA to be isnt netting what you guys think. garza will not demp

I think the best comp would be what the Cubs got back for Ted Lilly. Who do you have who is slightly better than Blake DeWitt? I think we might be simultaneously over- and under-rating Dempster's value though, as the CBA and rental is one factor and Dempster's age and production is another.
