I thought this thread was going to be a side-by-side comparison of Trung Candidate and Ryan Dempster.
Color me disappointed...

Sorry dude....
I think the best comp would be what the Cubs got back for Ted Lilly. Who do you have who is slightly better than Blake DeWitt? I think we might be simultaneously over- and under-rating Dempster's value though, as the CBA and rental is one factor and Dempster's age and production is another.
he wont be dealt IMO until after hammels (unless extended) garza go among others who are the same or better that become available.
the matchup with the sox is perfect. the sox arent trading for someone like garza who is going to net a lot of shit we are low in, demp stays in chicago, we need a starter to bump humber to the BP and have floyd as the 5th starter.
your netting would be a young BP arm like jones and a low level spec, or a santiago, low level spec and a lillibridge esque player.
I wouldn't mind the Jones + haul for Dempster to be honest, but Dews none of know how this market place is going to play out. There are too many factors at this point to sit there and say this is or is not what Dempster is worth because of that.
i kinda hinted to that ya big goon with my hammels/garza comment.
I think there are more factors at play than Hamels(one m)/Garza...
Levine says he'll write a piece speculating on what teams might be interested in Dempster and Garza, as well as how the White Sox feel about the possibility of adding Dempster. He also suggests Nate Jones as a return, but doesn't like the idea of weakening the bullpen to add a starter. I'd rather have a better starter, but whatever.
This was in the ESPN Chicago chat.
