I thought this thread was going to be a side-by-side comparison of Trung Candidate and Ryan Dempster.

Color me disappointed...

Sorry dude....

Not your fault.. it's the dyslexia.

I don't see the Angels making a move to bring in a guy like Dempster. Weaver won't be out too much longer (hopefully) and we have two other borderline aces in Haren and Wilson behind him. Santana has given up wayyyy too many home runs this season but has still been decent and Jerome Williams amazingly found the fountain of youth for a second straight season.

For some reason the front office here still believes Garrett Richards is serviceable and will probably give him at least one more shot in the bigs before giving up on him, if Weaver or anyone else were to miss an extended stint.

On top of that, the farm system is barren. Unless you want to take a chance on a super raw double A guy like Hellweg or Segura there's not really much there yet. A couple HiA guys with promise but surely the Cubs are looking for some return on Dempster that can make an MLB impact within the next 3 seasons and the Halos don't really have that to give them at this point.

he wont be dealt IMO until after hammels (unless extended) garza go among others who are the same or better that become available.

the matchup with the sox is perfect. the sox arent trading for someone like garza who is going to net a lot of shit we are low in, demp stays in chicago, we need a starter to bump humber to the BP and have floyd as the 5th starter.

your netting would be a young BP arm like jones and a low level spec, or a santiago, low level spec and a lillibridge esque player.

I think the best comp would be what the Cubs got back for Ted Lilly. Who do you have who is slightly better than Blake DeWitt? I think we might be simultaneously over- and under-rating Dempster's value though, as the CBA and rental is one factor and Dempster's age and production is another.

There are quite a few factors at work here beyond that. These include the decreased number of sellers, and therefore supply of talent on the market, Dempsters NTC, exactly who else is going to be on the market, etc. The thing that has to be keep in the back of your mind is that the Cubs could keep Dempster and offer him the 1 year deal. I am sure the Cubs would rather trade Dempster and not risk injury or him taking the offer and sucking. But it isn't like Dempster leaving at the end of the season would net them nothing. Either they would get a supplemental pick which probably would be in the range of what Carlos Pena pick was at around 56 or another year of Dempster.

I wouldn't mind the Jones + haul for Dempster to be honest, but Dews none of know how this market place is going to play out. There are too many factors at this point to sit there and say this is or is not what Dempster is worth because of that.

You could probably use WAR$ to guesstimate Dempster's value and then throw in the intangible factors like desperation. Who's desperate at this point? You basically won't know until after the ASG, but desperation could artificially inflate the haul the Cubs get back.

this sub forum is so stupid, its hidden for 1 and 2 any specific rumor should have its own thread on the main page. you want guests to see the most up to date news and rumors and they dont. but whatever.

I just logged out to check and guests can actually still see the subforum as well as posts that light up in there. The thread also shows up in the last 10 active threads list at the bottom of the main page. As with most threads, if nobody posts in them it dies down. This thread has like 200+ posts (most of them by me, but whatever  ) so obviously if it's a hot topic, people will see it.

I kind of like it for organizational purposes.

Levine says he'll write a piece speculating on what teams might be interested in Dempster and Garza, as well as how the White Sox feel about the possibility of adding Dempster. He also suggests Nate Jones as a return, but doesn't like the idea of weakening the bullpen to add a starter. I'd rather have a better starter, but whatever.

This was in the ESPN Chicago chat.

BN:
That pretty much covers it all. RT @DKnobler Some rival execs spec Dempster could be traded right after All-Star break, others guess pre-ASG

One AL executive on Cubs RHP Ryan Dempster: "He's pitching well and he'd give you a good character guy/leader." Follow-up to @DKnobler.

Hmm, someones has been speculating about Nate Jones as a return for Dempster for a few weeks now
