I think we can do better than that to be honest.
Under the old CBA I'd agree with you. With this new one, I'm not so sure because we have no idea how GMs will react to it.

I understand the Beltran comp dabynsky used but I'd also like to say that Brian Sabean is stupid
It is a perfect fit for everyone but the Cubs front office.
what do you mean

We can argue what Dempster would get in a trade, but the White Sox have one of the weakest farm systems in baseball. The Cubs are looking to add young pieces, and while I would be happy to get a bullpen arm like Jones and a meh prospect. I am not certain that this FO would rather get two decent prospects back for him. So the perfect fit for this front office would be a team like Toronto that has a really deep system.
we arent talking about verlander here. its dempster who will be a fa. you dont need a great farm to trade for a guy like him.

It all just depends. I mean, clearly he's not Verlander, but he's pitched GREAT this year...and there will be more than 4-5 teams interested in him. So you don't have to have a great farm, but you have to be willing to part with more than every other team.
And the Cubs could hold onto him and offer him a qualifying offer at the end of the year if the market isn't there like you seem certain of. And either they get a supplemental pick if he tests the market or they get him back next season at a discount from this season.
Gotta keep as many members from the 2012 World Series Champs as they can. :smoke:signing demp for next year does nothing for the cubs. no point in keeping him around.

If he's a one-year $12.5MM pitcher it's a deal I can live with and a worthwhile gamble for the Cubs to make. If they did it, that means that they were gambling that he'd take a better deal elsewhere than to take a paycut to stay with a shit team.
