The least likely landing spot IMO from the teams discussed here and other places is toronto. Their rotation is shot right now and they are falling. I doubt Toronto takes a chance on giving up specs for a very very slim shot at making the playoffs.

For Demp? Yes. Garza, maybe not because he's still young, has a year on his contract, knows the AL East well and signing him to an extension would be likely.

Should Garza be dealt??

I see Matt Garza as a #3 in a good rotation. He has great stuff and can be dominant. But too often his location is off and he gets rocked. I think he (and his agent) will be seeking #1 money and I don't think he's worth the money he will command. I would be fine with the Cubs getting a couple good prospects for him.

The Cubs desperately need prospects and sources say they're essentially willing to buy them. Chicago is okay with eating a large portion of Ryan Dempster's salary for the rest of the year to pry good young players away from an interested team like the Red Sox or Dodgers. Dempster is being paid $13.5MM this season, which means that any team that traded for him now would owe him roughly $8MM.

•A Yankees official told Sherman that Ryan Dempster would just “muddy the water” in New York, an indication that the Yankees aren’t overly interested in the Cubs right-hander.

nice of ny to say lol

A lot of buzz is that the Rockies are going to trade Guthrie to the Jays. Seems like they might be trying to buy to stay in it.

it will cost them less to get guthrie which is smart since the jays are pretenders

It is certainly a match if the price is right, but it is just interesting that hte Jays are buying at this point since the odds are stacked so heavily against them. Seems to point if that they can stay afloat til closer to the deadline they might splurge.

6/18 Dempster to DL

They'll have to wait until he's off DL before he can be traded. So probably one more start before he's gone.

That's a letdown. Trade value down now, especially if he is bad in his first start off the DL.

Looks like Beachy is going to have Tommy John Surgery. I wonder if Atlanta might get in the Garza sweepstakes

Re: Dempster...

Chris (Purdue)

Any indication that Demps injury is more serious then they let on? They say lat tightness but lat strains arent anything to mess with for a pitcher and if it is a strain, that could serious hamper the package we get back for him. Any word on how this changes his trade value?

Bruce Levine (1:06 PM)

He's pitched with it for two weeks so I don't even know if he wanted to go on the DL. I would say that by the All-Star Game or right after he will be back. If other teams are interested they can have his medicals checked out and he can be traded while he is on the DL. It's happened before.
