The kid is 22 & is going to be a stud for a long time.

This isn't like the Leafs paying Jeff Finger here.

A kid who had ONE good season after two years of being a huge defensive liability. Not saying the kid can't be a stud ... but that's awfully quick to throw $7 million per year at a player.

I read the story on my phone and can't find the link now, but I read a story from Pittsburgh's newspaper that said Jordan Staal has been told by the Pens GM Ray Shero that he will not be re-signed and will be a UFA after next season.

He's going to get an obscene amount of money.

He's the Sens cornerstone on D. Not surprising they would sign him long term already.

Wow. From Bob McKenzie on Twitter:

Hearing Jordan Staal turned down 10-yr mega offer from PIT. Has indicated to PIT he doesn't plan on resign now

Just going to post the same thing :angryfinger:

If Staal won't re-up in PIT, where he loves it, not expected to extend with anyone else who may trade for him. Except perhaps Carolina. ‪#bro

He added this later.

Wow. From Bob McKenzie on Twitter:

If true, then it would be more than just money for Staal.

Could be that he doesn't want to be the 3C if Crosby/Malkin are both healthy and the Pens continue to play them up the middle. That might be the biggest reason and really the only one I can figure out...unless he wants to be closer to home or something.

His one good season is better than anything what Bolland did, who's career high is 47 points & is making 3.5 mil

Karlsson had almost double the amount of goals than Bolland had total points.

This past season, not only did Erik Karlsson earn the Norris with his 19 goals and 79 points, but also he singlehandedly saved the Fukushima plant, assassinated Osama Bin Laden, and changed the regime in Tunisia.

That's a pretty good year. :yep:

Here's where I'm confused. Not knocking Karlsson at all, because the kid had an incredible year. But why does a guy who puts up a ton of points as a defenseman instantly become the leading Norris candidate?

It's a similar argument for the Selke, that a guy has to put up big offensive numbers to win the trophy for being a defensive forward.

And these debates go back for years, too.

Hope none of you fell for this fantastic prank tweet on Twitter today:

Looks like the wait is over. Luongo is going to Winnipeg for Dustin Byfuglien, the Jets 1st and 3rd pick.
