Supposedly the guy that revitalized geno Smith is the oc in Tampa that just revitalized baker Mayfield. He was the Seattle qb coach last year. Supposedly why geno regressed this season
For this to be true Geno Smith would have to forget everything he was taught by a QB coach that "revitalized" his career in one off season.

Much more likely SEA , as an offensive staff, just got more out of Geno Smith in 2022 and Geno is who has always been, just in a more QB friendly offense.

Fact is his passer rating under Waldron is 97+ while being below 73 in his 6 previous seasons.

Here's something delhomme said. He wasn't any of the guys I originally heard talk about it, but it's something nonetheless:

Perhaps just as important, offensive coordinator Dave Canales has been very good for Mayfield, Delhomme and others noted. “Canales is a name to watch,” said Delhomme, noting that as Seattle’s QB coach in 2022 that Canales had guided Geno Smith to a breakout season. “Canales is a Pete Carroll disciple,” Delhomme added, “and everything is about competition and positivity. I think he brought that to Baker.” The Panthers, by the way, requested an interview with Canales for their head-coaching job — one of a number of candidates they are considering. That interview, a source told The Observer, was taking place Thursday.

I'm not picking a fight, just relaying info. That's why I said supposedly. I've heard a couple guys talk about it on either a podcast or through nfl network, can't remember which because it was a couple weeks ago during a bucs/Eagles preview.
@BearsFan51 just reads everything as if it were typed in all caps. PTSD from a wife and kids that scream at him all day long.

Am sure he did a 2nd interview when they dwindle it down to the final few.

Wonder if Fields was present in the final round? cause in the end game he has to be all in to build chemistry with the new OC. If Fields was present, means the trade is in the works. If bears brass didn't invite Justin to get his take it could only mean . . . hmmmmmm
Imagine thinking JF is in the position of picking his OC. Staying or not JF is not that guy.

I don't think a qb like that is going to have sustained success or anything, but he won comeback player of the year, the qb coach leaves to be an oc and brings another dud back to life, and is now getting hc interviews while waldron takes a lateral move to the bears. I mean, baker is a comeback player of the year candidate as well. Don't think it's a coincidence.

I agree it was likely the staff as a unit, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Why is it more for Fields?

Because this guy worked with Geno Smith? Geno Smith isn't exactly the paragon of mobility.

I don't think this means anything, although in general I think he was one of the better candidates.
He resurrected Geno Smith's career so automatically this means he was hired to fix Fields. But jokes on Waldron cuz Fields doesn't need fixed, he just needs All Pro's at every skill position and an O-line that can just hold their blocks for 9 seconds.

A few thoughts:
1. I absolutely don't think this tips Poles' hand. In fact, I'm guessing part of Waldron's appeal is that he came in with a plan for Fields or any of the rookie QBs that they might draft.
2. Whichever QB they go with, I hope the brain trust realizes that you do not need a lot of cooks in the kitchen.

It doesn't mean anything...one meeting is not going to build chemistry

Only he comes from the QB Collective coaching tree which is currently working with Caleb Williams so it doesn't tip their hand either way.

If you want to jump up that conclusion to try and feel right because it's me you want to argue with there's the obvious counter point.

For once we agree. The Bears are doing this intentionally. They are keeping what is happening with the #1 pick a complete mystery so far, and are playing this whole thing incredibly smart.

Sounds like you are doing warm up exercises before you rip your dick off...

I'm not calling Geno a world beater or anything, but the dude in Tampa (can't remember his name) supposedly simplified the game for both of them. Don't know if it's true, just thought it was interesting.

As to waldron, I know nothing really about him. My skepticism has more to do with the bears than waldron, and I don't think Seattle had a top flight offense. When he was passing game coordinator with the Rams was when mcvay hated goff lol. It's hard to know exactly how much influence he had with either team considering the HCs.

I'm just ecstatic they didn't hire Kingsbury or Roman.
This is why you’re a Hall of Famer

I’ve never seen a white guy play victim like this, you must be studied!

I kind of hope they bring on Panthers OC Thomas brown in some capacity. I believe he was with Waldron in LA as an rb coach. Bring him in as rb coach and Olson or someone with experience as qb coach as well.

Yes they should aim to keep it as 50/50 as possible to maximize trade value.
