Geno regressed this year. I highly doubt he was hired because of Geno Smith in a vacuum. The ability to adapt and get the most out of a flawed player I think was definitely a huge positive in his corner though. Poles and Flus even said this in their press conference, they want someone who will coach to the players strengths.

Looking on Twitter, Seahawks fans saying the same thing. Said there was a massive difference in the offense with and without Canales. Also seeing he abandons the run and his scheme is questionable based on the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent and his halftime adjustments are non-existant. They're fans, take it for what it's worth.

Sounds like us every year lol

I'm quite surprised we were able to get an OC of this caliber based on Flus being dead man walking next year. That is a positive for us. I like the hire I wanted someone with real playcalling experience. It's very hard to judge a coach who has never called plays unless you're an expert at identifying good offensive coaches (we are not).

You expected a 33 year old QB to continue to get better? Because his regression was only slight from a year ago especially since he missed two games.

Agreed. If he is good enough for Pete Carrol he is good enough for me. Feel like he had to be a top candidate everywhere.

Well we all know how fans are from our time on CCS but it still makes me a little less excited for this hire but not enough to think they didn't get one of the best guys that they interviewed, so i'm going to hope for the best with this hire. I was also expecting some regression from Geno this year because i just didn't think he was in reality as good as he played in his 1st year with them.

No I’m saying I think the Bears took more stock in their ability to identify Geno’s strengths and get something out of him more than a belief that Geno is good now. That’s what I was trying to say.

so olson likely follows as qb coach, thomas brown as RB coach if he gets no real offers? Curious to see who they target for WR's coach

The only time you will get all positives out of a fanbase is if that team is still playing in the playoffs. As soon as they lose the loud part of that base will shit on the coaches.

Only the unknown gets all positive remarks. The first 3 and out someone will hate Waldron here.

Armstrong is working on that as we speak.

It was a little more than "slight." His TD percentage dropped by 1.2% while his INT% stayed almost identical. Completion percentage went from 70% to 65%. Rating dropped from 101 to 92. Considering the skill players around him, those are pretty solid drops.

He does have connections to Caleb though
Yup but we don't know how strong. He's been bust as an OC of late but can likely get some real info from those connections. I'm sure this wasn't part of Poles decision but this hire keeps all options on the table as far as outsiders are concerned.
