Because maybe the top HC candidates gave a list of coaches they may want for their staff.
Then interview them when you pick the HC if anything. Clearly your comment is not the standard of the NFL or every team needing a HC would interview 15+ candidates.

Eh, I wouldn't say pointless. As it was in person, it means the Bears have satisfied the Rooney Rule.

For Eddie George, it gets his name back out in the media and reminds folks that he still exists and that he is coaching. It may open doors down the road assuming he wants to move up in the coaching ranks either to a bigger college program or to an NFL staff.

on edit: I would add that the Bears had previously brought him in during the 2023 offseason through the Bill Walsh diversity coaching fellowship. So, there was a preexisting connection between him and the organization and coaching.
It’s not pointless for George. For him, I agree with the above. It’s pointless for the Bears though.

Why?

Because it wasn’t first? Or eighth?

Why pointless? Was it more pointless than the Miami defensive coordinator or the Giants offensive guy?
It was equally as pointless as 80% of the candidates they requested to interview. There is a reason the Bears are being laughed at with how many candidates they requested to interview. It’s far from the norm.

The Bears had GM candidates provide a list of preferred HCs and interviewed them before hiring a GM. The Bears interviewed a lot of OC candidates including Brown and then hired Brown not as OC but passing game coordinator.

So whether other teams do it is irrelevant. The Bears do it.

I can see how 17 candidates seems extreme. I don’t disagree with that. But I don’t give a shit what other teams do. Last cycle the Bears got skewered for only having three candidates. This cycle they’re getting skewered for interviewing too many. Just get the right guy I don’t care how many interviews they have.

You still I sound a little racist or you are just a very confused person. First of all, I’m not crying about any candidate that they’re interviewing. You’re the one who is talking about race. I’m just saying the way that they went about it was embarrassing. Eddie George should’ve said **** you I’m an intelligent man and a damn good coach, and I am not your token black guy who is going to dance and entertain you to make you feel better about yourself.

No Eddie George is obviously not at the level in his career to jump to being a NFL Head Coach! Could he be an assistant coach in the NFL? That’s more likely, but if the Bears were serious, why didn’t they wait until they hire their head coach first? It’s shameful that the great Eddie George even agreed.

As far as Having something good to put on your résumé, If the highlight of your fucking résumé is, I was a Rooney rule Interviewee, then No one is gonna take you serious.

If you don’t get it then you just don’t get it. Your racism makes you blind with hate. I’m not gonna sit here and argue with you because I know you’re a mean little man.
Wow!

look @satchice has weirdly blown a gasket over this interview, but it isn't the same as Kafka, Campbell,Petzig or Stanavich. Two are OC's who cant be hired away from other teams other than for HC and one is a Power 5 HC, George is a Tenn ST with a 24-22 record.

Has EG been on the Bears radar in some capacity for awhile- allegedly

Were the Bears Poles/Warren complete morons to not be Rooney Rule compliant before this round of the playoffs- 100% yes

Did they once again create bad optics by self inflicting wounds announcing the EG interview minutes after the Lions loss- Bears

What you said above is different than interviewing someone like Eddie George for the HC position. There is absolutely no chance he gets the job. Therefore an absolutely pointless interview.

Eddie took over a shit program and took them to the FCS playoffs this year. He's clearly building something. Looking at the win-loss record doesn't tell you that.

Plus the bears are aware of him because he began here in the internship that leads to a career in coaching. No surprise in them getting his name out there.

FCS to NFL HC? Even the Bears couldn't be this stupid. Maybe the Bears are just trying to do him a solid, but announcing it minutes after the Lions loss is so on point for the Bears.

Bears don’t know wtf they are doing. So maybe they should actually take note of how other organizations run the show. Either way they are a laughing stock.

One of the teams in the NFC Championship game hired their coach last in last year's hiring cycle.

I don't think anyone knows for sure what a good process is to find a coach.

I get doing him a solid so he can experience and learn from the process. Im cool with that. It wouldn’t look as ridiculous if they already didn’t interview so many other candidates who have no chance at getting the job.

I think the interview was never going to get EG hired but he can now get some good feedback from the Bears and it’s a learning experience for him.
