Rosenthal just tweeted Brett at Bleacher Nation's fear about the rumor. Marmol was asked by the Cubs if he waive his NTC to the Angels but no deal is complete. This might be a case of the twitterverse exploding over nothing.

To play devil's advocate...

Let's say that Gordon Beckham made a spectacular game saving play that resulted in a positive result for the White Sox. Is that not :fap: worthy? I would be excited if Darwin Barney made a spectacular game saving play in a largely lost season that resulted in a positive result, and I wouldn't begrudge anyone for doing the :fap: mechanic.

Similarly, since Theo has made a good move that has the great potential to have a positive impact on the Cubs future (via trade for specs), I think it's ok to get excited about it.

you really cant compare a game saving play to a reliever/starter trade. Too many holes in the comparison. regular season game? where you up by a game? where you cutting into a lead in august? was it against the rival? was it the post season? and on and on and on...depending on the situation and the specific game one would :fap: for a moment other times there are no :fap: ing. just a hard comparison but I see where you tried to drive the truck.

Your last comment is all up in the air. If theo gets haren and he pitches so well you can get a prospect (just off of tommy john than is amazing, just a shot at a few of the idiots here) than as the whole picture develops its :fap: worthy...until that plays out....its just a move for at best a 3....thats at best, like everything has to go right best. he is a 4th starter.

good move.

not :fap: worthy aka lets stroke theos ****.

Thats all im trying to say rubes.

Someone just said that Marmol went on the radio to talk about this trade. I don't know which station. I also was not aware Marmol had a NTC or any no-trade protection.

Cots contracts does not list a no-trade provision in Marmol's contract.

I think he had a limited one. He got a deal from Jim Hendry, weren't those standard?

Kaplan is saying that the deal is not done but it seems like medicals are being checked type formalities that are holding the deal up not that it isn't close.

Rosenthal's tweet that I referenced specifically mentions a NTC or list of teams he could block.

Haren, however, has a limited no-trade clause to block trades to 12 teams, not sure which ones.

You can feel free to relay that info to Brett. But if it's progressed to this stage and the only obstacle is money and medicals then I wouldn't freak about it.

Part of it has to do with the fact that the Cubs are ridding themselves of an inconsistent, overpaid reliever, and part of it has to do with my statement that the money is pretty much going to even out. So if you can upgrade the rotation and the only thing you potentially get rid of is Marmol, it's an excellent trade. Yes, Haren can break, he could suck, yada yada yada, but at the time the trade (theoretically, if it happens) was made, this was well-executed and the powers-that-be deserve congratulations. Chill out :cubstroll2:

im chilled.

there are though some real dense fans and sometimes when they are all on I get frustrated. I will post my dense-o-meter here for further ref.

Ken Rosenthal‏@Ken_Rosenthal

Decision rests with Marmol, according to source. If he agrees to join #Angels, Haren will go to #Cubs.

Confirmed through source: Contrary to published reports, there is NO deal between #Angels and #Cubs. The plot thickens.

I seen it posted on the BL on ESPN. That's where I first heard this. I hope that Twitter dies. It's stupid.

Not sure to trust Rosenthal, the premier national source, or the guy closer to the Angels here...

Anyone find the original press release for Marmol's extension back in 2010 or so? I don't remember his no-trade clause. This is maddening
