I have seen it thrown each way. When you twist the wrist opposite for a righty to cut in to a righty, you are stressing the elbow, the curve ball is a quicker twist.

I found it easier to use a circle change grip and let it tumble off the pinky on release. Creates a screwball effect with out the torque

Guess that Cole deal was a false rumor...

Nobody wants to get anything done this year

Rather suddenly I have some appreciation for Schwarber's knee recovery. Other night I'm pretty sure I sprained my MCL. God it's annoying. Walking is a chore. Sleeping is almost impossible to find a comfortable position(sleep on my sides). Just hoping a sprain is all it is. Think what happened was my ankle got twisted in some covers when I was sleeping and when I went to switch from one side to the other my ankle didn't move and it twisted my knee some. Can't imagine it was enough force to tear it.

Regardless, it's not fun and props to him for coming back so quick from far worse than I think I have.

I saw cubs and Holland picking up some steam

I spent the afternoon digging into some stats a bit on Holland while I wasn't being a useless gimp with my knee. I have no idea how the medicals on him will look(missed all of 2016) but if he's back fully healthy he could be pretty intriguing. Since Wade Davis converted to a reliever in 2014 he had a 3.5 bb/9 and a 10.3 k/9 with a 2.78/2.90 ERA/FIP. On his career Holland has a 11.94 k/9 and a 3.60 bb/9 with a 2.60/2.45 ERA/FIP. So, he's effectively been a better version of Davis in the past. Last season his numbers weren't quite as good at 10.99/4.08 k/bb per 9 and 3.61/3.72 ERA/FIP but to be fair that was in Coors a lot. And looking at his game log, he basically had one really bad two week period. From 8/6 to 8/23 he gave up 12 of his 23 ERs in in 6.1 innings. You remove that small stretch his ERA falls to 1.94.

Looking a bit deeper, his slider was as dominant as it was prior to injury(2.71 wSL/C in 2013 and 2.77 wSL/C last year). His fastball wasn't as good and he was throwing a little softer(routinely 96 prior to injury and 93 the season of injury and last year). I suspect that could be something that improves a little a year away from the injury. Typically takes guys a bit to come back.

I feel like if you can get him for say 2 years at $8-9 mil AAV or something in that range that'd be worth considering. Maybe you give him some incentives to make it a bit sweeter but if you're talking that deal vs Davis with their respective talents I think it's not even close in terms of value.

I would get it checked honestly. I’m recovering from a herniated Disc from last week. I was out for a week with sharp pain that prevented even getting up from bed with out rolling onto my feet. They put me on Norco and some steroids and it got me back to work in 4 Days.

I wouldn’t guess with it. Let the Doc do that job. G.L.

Well if it still hurts in a week I probably will(read strains usually take 1-2 weeks recovery). Doubt i could even get into the doctor before then anyways.

Apparently darvish has narrowed his list down to 5 teams. At this point I'm surprised there's even 5 teams actively looking at any FA. Wouldn't know it by the lack of action.

Good luck with your recovery. When I had a herniated disc it took me a full year before I was pain free.

Thanks. I’m getting up in age so I’m honestly thinking on doing Arrieta’s palette’s.

So Darvish narrows it to 5 teams including cubs..

Arrieta has offers from 4 teams including cubs..

What happens if they both choose the cubs? Do they sign both lol

Darvish said there was a mystery team out there.

But known are Yanks, Cubs, Houston, Minn, Rangers. I would put Cubs at 50%, Yanks 5% due to lux tax word is they are lurking to see if his price drops. Minn is near working budget . 15% is a fair odds due to all of the factors on them. Houston 20% and Rangers 10%.

Mystery team honestly might be smoke to keep the price tag up.

Jake I believe the Rangers have the inside edge due to need and location for Jake. 50% going there. Cubs are a fall back plan and honestly I believe that offer will be the worst by far he sees.

I’m thinking it will be Cubs: Yu. Rangers: Jake so basically a location swap for both.

Lynn and Cobb I’m figuring one lands in Milwaukee. 2nd I’m thinking Minn as they are very close to a play off team right now.

NYY and Hou might end up trading instead. Both have the blue chips required to pull off either Archer or Cole and I’m seeing these 2 gunning for each other right now.

Hopefully some of these teams will show some balls and tell them to shit or get off the pot already. If its this bad for 2 pitchers, how bad will it be next year?

Something I hadn't considered slowing FA this week was that this is the week before salary arbitration happen so you'll often see teams working out pre-hearing deals. Presumably it shouldn't take that much effort to do that and FA but it's not like there's nothing going on.

Well I hope they hammer out a 10 year deal for Bryant. That would make this stall worth it.

Cubs signed Daniel Camarena to a minor league deal. Looks to be a depth starter. LHP though. Nothing too exciting i'm seeing in the stats but he's not terrible.

Last i heard cubs offer was 4 yrs high in salary...
If Cubs upped a year he may take it

What everyone thoughts..
Be glad resigning Arrieta or rather have Darvish

Im neutral...just hope whoever we sign does the job

Also i noticed

Lester Quintana(19,20 options) Hendricks Chatwood

I honestly do not believe that St. Louis is involved with an actual offer to Arrieta. It doesn't make sense as they have bigger needs in the bullpen and another bat. I think their involvement is solely to drive the price up and the rumor that he's deciding between the two is just that. The only way I could see St. Louis interest as being real is if they've decided, in the interest of limiting innings, to use Reyes as their closer once he's back at the beginning of May. Otherwise they have a solid rotation but some serious holes elsewhere.

I don't know what the Cubs are going to do. At 4/$110 mil I'd be OK with Arrieta, I'd go an extra year and slightly higher AAV for Darvish.
