Via Dane Brugler of The Athletic:

“10. Chicago Bears: Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State

Simmons was trending towards being OT1 in this draft class until he suffered a knee injury in mid-October, which required season-ending surgery.

His draft stock will be in limbo until the combine, when teams receive medical feedback from their doctors. But if he’s healthy, Simmons is a natural left tackle with a high ceiling.

39. Chicago (from CAR): Wyatt Milum, G/C, West Virginia

41. Chicago Bears: Landon Jackson, Edge, Arkansas”

He has Donovan Jackson going at 28 to Baltimore.

@ILoveDick

What do you think about Dane’s selections?

He has my favorite for our first second rounder going in the first — Mike Green, DE, Marshall. I love that guy. Dudes who get sacks at his rate, get them in the pros. If Brugler has him going in the first, I can’t complain about a starter-level G and a big DE who can play all over the line. I’d actually prefer Prince Unmamielien AND Landon Jackson over the G. Double up on explosive edges.

Depending on what happens in FA, I would not be opposed to the 1st round pick going for a pass rusher and then the 2 2nd rounders going to OL.

For that matter, it may be worth trading back too if the stars are not aligning to the Bears needs vs draft position. I definitely would lean towards seeing that vs taking another pre-injured player.

You’re the second poster to mention Green in this thread. I didn’t see any Marshall games last season but he’ll be at the Senior Bowl. That will be a huge week for him.

Mock drafts are fun. I confess to enjoy reading them.

And they are, of course, unrelated to what will actually occur. After the first 2 or 3 picks, it becomes increasingly difficult to predict, which affects every pick afterwards, and the whole thing just goes off the rails.

Still fun, Just not to be taken seriously.

I enjoy them as well. I think people weirdly get very critical of them. Brugler published that on January 15th. The draft is a lifetime away, and people in the comments section were going nuts on him.

When people rant about someone's mock draft, especially one several months out, I get this image in my head of Heath Ledger's Joker:

I don’t get it but he probably goes before pick 10 too. That would give the Bears the 7th choice of players outside of the QBs.

It's really his best option. Maybe his only option. Playing another year at Texas or transferring does nothing for him, so you may as well take advantage of the weaker QB class.

EDIT: By "weaker" I'm actually talking about the depth of the position. I don't shit on prospects.

I get that. My comment wasn’t clear. I don't get him as a top 10 pick but I think it happens.

Why do you think taking Simmons at 10 is comically bad? I believe it was an ACL, not a broken back. Pick depends on the medicals. Has a much higher ceiling than Braxton and is a better LT prospect than Banks or Campbell, imo. I think taking a G at 10 is a helluva lot more comically-bad than taking a guy who you think can lock down LT for a decade. If the Bears don’t draft him, I doubt he makes it past the 9ers right behind them.
This^.

The rest of you wannabe keyboard jokers crack on Poles all you want; but actual facts show you are the punchlines.

Fact is in January 2023 the Bears were a complete shiitshow. Ryan "Lost ball in the weeds" Pace and Matt "The Realtor" "I've always considered myself a leader, a leader of men." Nagy had completed their 4 year destruction of any chance that "double doinker" team had at success. Their destruction was so complete that only 5 players from their 2021 roster are still with with the team and most are out of the NFL.

2022 was spent tearing down an aging, overpaid roster without a 1st round pick (traded to the Giants by the above mentioned brilliant numbnuts to move up 10 spots taking a swing for J. Fields to save their sinking arses). It worked a little as rookie Fields scrambled for his life behind a POS patchwork OL (remember 39y.o. Jason Peters, Cody "am I a G or C" Whitehair, Sam "I guess I'm the center" Mustipher, James "Even though I played C in college, I'm not a C but my butt is big, somebody will pay me and my rook K is over so Imagonna cash in on this pending FA$ grab" Daniels, and rookie Larry "The Turnstile" Borum setting the tone to come for Bear OLs in 2023, and 2024) providing a season of incredible running scrambles and running TD highlights to wow the suckers we Bear fans appear to be as the "SELL THE TEAM" chants weren't quite audible until the end of the 2024 season. (You see, that is the only true solution to the problem! It is not Poles. It is the McClasslesskeys. The root of all the Bear's problems is that the wrong HALAS died in 1979. "GEORGE HALAS JR., 54, DIES IN CHICAGO President of Pro Football's Bears Was Son of Team's Founder". Muggs was Papa Bear's choice to control the team and keep it in the Halas line. Ginny was the only choice Papa Bear had left once Mugs died and by 1979 that biotch of a first wife had secured financial control of the third generation of Halas boys. Ginny's curse was her marriage into the McFuchskys' family and 40+ years later dumbarss Micheal then stupidarss George are still focking up the legacy of GSH!) At least Poles is managing those non-football minded simpletons and attempting to build a team under their assininity (yes, I did make up that word but felt it quite appropriate.)

All Poles has done in three years is to take a no talent, no money left to spend in FA team and make 26 draft choices, 24 of which are still on NFL rosters; 10 starting for the Bears. Including 6 lineman drafted (all still in the NFL with a 1st rounder and 5th rounder starting for the Bears). And trade for, draft and sign with limited $ several quality offensive skill position players, including Chicago's first ever potential franchise QB, and 7 starters on defense. He has done this notwithstanding the McLoser's family progeny whose DNA are so genetically watered down old George would have already drowned those pussies in the Chicago River and impregnated a Honeybear's daughter to return some ass-kicking size balls to his team. Anyway, He's also finally rid of Elberfuchead!!!

Flusball? Flusball? I don't have time for Floserball. How do you like my new look and $4mil house?

But all you bitchy moaners can say is Poles should be fired. You're too early. It takes time to turn a complete shiitshow into a team.

Year 4 IS Poles' make it or get the hell out year. He knows it's time to spend $ and draft capital on his phase 3. Build the Interiors.

Watch the HC and staff hires, watch his FA moves. C, G and maybe a NT. 1st 4 picks (+ a potential supplemental pick at the end of R3 for Ian): OT, Edge, Edge, Best Interior O/D remaining available. All football nasty. If this or something closely resembling this doesn't happen, than yes, fire Poles on Friday night April 25th before he drips any more of your negative nancy , sky is falling, loser juice upon this team.

I see value in letting RP finish his painting. Just because he hasn't been painting by your numbers does not show he isn't an artist. I still believe his final touches just may create a beautiful picture.

Don’t see the Bears at #10 going after anyone with an “if he’s healthy” tag in the scouting report, especially when Brugler doesn’t have any OL going in the first nine picks. That scenario sort of feels like a Will Campbell pick. He’s the consensus top OL guy in this draft. If he ends up at guard, so be it. In the end, it’s all about getting a perennial Pro Bowl type of player somewhere on their OL or DL with that top 10 pick. It doesn’t matter where…

Also interesting that Brugler has Membou going at #11. He seems to be the fast riser in the OL class, sort of like Wright back in 2023.
I would’ve absolutely loved getting Membou at 39, but it sounds like he’s gonna show out at the Senior Bowl

I think this is probably who I would’ve picked. Ideally, I’d trade down a few spots from 10 and pick Conerly.

10: Josh Conerly Jr.
39: Walter Nolen
41: Landon Jackson
72: Jared Wilson
