We are looking at a better version of Wooton for 3mil per.... Nice. I'll take that. Emery said our D was going to get younger, he wasn't kidding. If I can't have Peppers back on the cheap, I will take this signing.

I thought he was already gone! Great decent DE and for a great price! If we sign Melton or draft Donald our front 4 is going to be solid

He visited with the Jaguars. I'm guessing that the Chris Clemons deal killed any possibility with Jacksonville, and that's when he took the Bears offer (which was probably for less money).

Like golf, sometimes you can name drop and obscure Anime and embarrass someone's ass on an NFL messageboard and achieve maximum rep power.

Excellent signing by Emery. The league is about to take notice - Emery is one of the best GM's in the NFL. He can draft (Alshon Jeffrey, Kyle Long, Mills, etc), he can trade (Brandon Marshall) and he can sign (Bushrod, Bennett, etc). The acquisition of Willie Young gives us a young, talented player on the verge of putting it altogether.

In the draft I expect us to draft a DE, a DT, and a CB. Plus we're still not done yet in FA. Our D will be younger, quicker, more athletic, and way more dynamic. People laugh but watch Bostic take a huge leap next year. He'll be playing behind a much better front and he'll have a year of experience behind him. Bostic brings talent and play-making ability to the table. The additions of Houston and Young will do wonders for him.

Make no mistake, the tide is turning in the NFC North. Success starts at the top - from Emery down to Trestman and on to player personnel. We already have an elite offense and now the defense is making major changes.

I know right. Its like hitting a pitch cleanly past the pin and back-spinning it towards the hole. Suddenly you're PGA pro swaggin.

Then you spend a ton of money going every weekend for a while trying to do it again. Aaaaannnnnddd you don't.

It's a nice pick-up to be sure but I view Houston and Young from a pass rush perspective as complementary pieces to a stud pass rusher. So while I think they improve our run D a ton and are certainly better than Pep an Shea were last year, I think if these guys are you main pass rushers on the outside with Shea and Bass coming in on passing downs, you are still overall a weak pass rusher team. Better than last year but when last year was that terrible, that's not saying much.

So headed in the right direction but this D still needs a legit no questions asked, 10 sack a year guy IMO to really get back on track.

Low risk signing, the guy seems like more of a backup/fringe starter type. Please check your expectations people. If the guy couldn't get sacks with two stud DT's getting all the attention he's not gonna do much here with our pathetic line.

@BearReport: Per Pro Football Focus, Willie Young had 3rd most QB hurries of any 4-3 DE in league in 2013 ... https://t.co/OLiNSH9qxu

He was in a pretty good situation, but for what he signed for it was a no brainer. Emery pounces on younger UFAs with potential.

I think the important thing to remember is that we didn't pay Young 10 sack per year money, we paid him rotational money. Good value for a guy who can get after a QB, if not always getting a sack.

Here's him dominating one of the best right tackles in the game in 2011. And a nice sack routine, too.

This. Addressed a position of need with a decent player and a favorable contract. Not bitching.

O man. 3 sack king and Lamar with 6 .. That is one force for DE. I'm ready for the Emery-ites to come at anyone criticizing his moves. Like Emery a lot n he better hope this pans out on D. On the upswing or not, he hasn't done much.

And how many of those hurries were created because Suh and Fairley were dominating inside. This is why I don't like subjective stats like hurries.
ding ding.

Seattle didn't have a 10-sack a year guy last season!

(Before anyone goes bananas, I'm not saying that the 2014 Bears will be the 2013 Seahawks. I'm saying that you can provide a decent pass rush without a 10-sack-a-year guy.)

Honestly I think they are writing off the next 2 seasons to rebuild the D through draft and make a SB run when Cutler's contract counts way less against the cap.

This guy was disruptive the last two seasons. He was always giving the Bears fits. Emery is bringing in some good depth and competition.. Defense line is getting better. Now bring Tillman back.

Willie Young is not young, he is two months younger than "veteran" Michael Bennett. He will be 29 at the start of next season.
