But he doesn't, that's some kind of myth. There was another hit where a Penguin launched himself into Keith later in that very same game. What about that hit on Seabrook from the game before? Just off the top of my head, 3 hits in the last 2 games that are dirty, all with Scott being dressed in both of them. There's been no reduction.

Have the 'Hawks established that mitigation yet? Most teams, including those in the East that are not scouting them as much, see them as soft. It takes time.

And really if you base something that takes time to establish on a small set then you are just being hypercritical.

It's been that way the entire season. And how the hell does no one know who John Scott is? Does anyone know who Mayers is? Has he been around the league long enough to know what his game is? Carcillo? Come on man. Which way is it folks, is everyone afraid of Scott or does no one know what his game is or his purpose on the ice is?

After watching the hit again I just realized they also missed a hook/hold on Dupiss right before Engelland charged, elbowed, and illegally hit Kruger in the head. It was great that Scott came in and defended his teammate but the instigator completely negated that. Had there just been off setting fighting majors, it probably would have made a big difference in that they would have been able to continue the way they were playing prior to the hit instead of instead of killing a penalty. I wish players would immediately fight someone who takes runs at other players but not at the cost of killing the team's momentum by having to kill a penalty. Scott actually had a pretty decent game last night (ie, knocking the puck away from Asham on a near-breakaway) but the Hawks were unable to regain what they had going prior to the fight/hit until the 3rd period when it was apparently too late.

Btw, I never questioned whether or not the Hawks like to play with Scott. I've read many times on hear that they love playing with him. Its just in this case the fight happened to coincide with lost momentum which may have cost them the game. Either way, I love how they played in the third and tonight is another 2 points on the table.

Yea but Gene had the NHL done it's JOB, we'd have still had a 3 minute PP out of it. Minus the possible 2 Scott gets for roughing.

Alas Rob Martell and Chris Lee fucked up the call. I know, "it's a fast game".

Sure Scott is big, but how often in his career has he done what he did last night by going straight at the guy. Very very infrequently.

Players that do not know Mayers are fools, or they do know him and think he is old and think they can get their way with him.

Carcillo is an agitator and no one is going to worry about fighting him.

Bickell atleast showed something the other night. More of that might change opinion of him.

Again, it is a process of adjusting perception. Perception is still that the 'Hawks are soft. More of last night will change that perception, but that change is not going to happen over night.

Goes back to my question "Have the 'Hawks established that mitigation yet?"

Here's the problem with the instigator, as I've said before:

Scott (our enforcer per se) sees Engelland's dirty hit on a smaller guy. He rushes over and challenges him. The fight and its over. Engelland knows that if he runs another Hawk, Scott will beat his ass. Message made. Give fighting majors and be done.

Now here is a different version where I agree with having an instigator penalty:

Engelland makes a dirty hit on Kruger. Several minutes later or even a period later Scott finds Engelland on the ice. He challenges him, he beats his ass. Message made. BUT Scott went looking for a fight long after the incident. That would be a decent and logical time to apply the instigator.

Yeah I didn't think it was a penalty when it first happened at the speed of the game but upon replay, it was obviously a lot worse. It IS a fast game but I don't understand how you miss a guy leaving his feet... especially when you've likely been officiating hockey for 20, 25 years.

Remove the instigator and see how fast this shit ends.

I was told by someone who communicated with Kruger today that he wanted to come back in last night but the team is being cautious and kept him out last night and today. He said he is ready to go now.

He was not all there on the bench before the 2nd. Least from what I heard.

I'm only adding this because it is a fact, but sometimes, often actually, the symptoms take a day or two to manifest.

Ask any player before the instigator rule came into play and they will tell you guys like scott actually did used to stop other players from committing head shots etc at the extent which we see them now. We all need to start listening to how the players past and present feel about the instigator and the enforcer role. These are the go to guys for raw information and insight yet we treat their opinions like they are just dumb hockey players and don't know the bigger picture. Us fans and our politics need to step back and start listening to the players and maybe even start asking them more important questions instead of the cliche shit we get like "how did it feel to win", "how did it feel to score a goal". These guys are smarter than we give them credit for so let's start asking them real questions about the game and the games within the game.

Respect the opinions of the players. They are the ones who play the game at a pro level and have made it a career.

hes a gamer. I love his passion for the game. In a couple years when his skill level increases to meet his passion and grit hes going to be a well rounded nhl player. He has already shown vast improvements from his short stint last yer.

I love our dressing room. Its starting to feel like that character filled team that won a cup.

Oh weird... Jonathan Toews said that Scott jumping Engelland is WHY FIGHTING HAS BEEN IN HOCKEY FOREVER and that removing the instigator rule would curb a lot of these dumbasses running around headshotting people.

But what does he know?!?!?

He's only the Captain of an NHL team.

Another reason the instigator penalty sucks ass is that it's never called uniformly. It's like the refs pull it out of their asses whenever they feel like it.

Don't tell us that. Tell BETTMAN the motherfucking oracle. You know, the guy that has never played a game of hockey in his fucking life yet sets the atmosphere for the league.

Still wondering how the Wings didn't scoop him up, he is the quintessential type player the Wings always get. Funny how the Bowmans work.......
