It just amazes me how much homers are in a teams fanbase. Saying Fielder might take a paycut to play in Chicago is one of the most homer comment I have ever read on this site.
There is absoutley no reason why Fielder would take a "paycut" to play in Chicago, he cares about two things: Money and Winning.
The reason why Fielder won't be re-signing with the Brewers is because of money, obviously. If Fielder would take a "paycut" then maybe it works, but we are talking about Boras and Fielder taking a 5/100-120 mil type of deal, which obviously is not going to happen.
I don't even really want Fielder to re-sign at the price it's going to take to get him. With how much of a small market team the Brewers are (probably more mid-market now) it would make no sense in paying Braun and Fielder a combined 35+ million per year. He's going to command and probably get a 5-6 year deal worth over 160 million. That's too much to pay a guy who has medicore defense, and weight issues. Would make much more sense for an AL team to sign him so they can DH him.
And players are MUCH more willing to come play in Milwaukee than they were five-six years ago. This has a lot to do with the fanbase support they have had over the last four years, and going to the playoffs two years out of the last four. When you get 3 M+ fans per year, and average about 35-36K per game, it makes it much more fun for players to play in that city. Plus, the weather is really nice during the summer.
So, I don't get why people are hating on Milwaukee.
But to think that he would take a paycut to a division rival, even though he still loves Milwaukee, and has a lot of friends on the team (Weeks, Gallardo, Hart, Braun etc) all the players he grew up with in the minors, and he has known Weeks since they were 12, is just plain Special person. He'll sign with either the Mariners, Jays, Rangers (if they don't sign Yu) or the Nationals. Obviously the Cubs are in the race if they offer the most money, but I doubt Theo would give Boras what he wants.
