That was a nail biter
So was today. I'm not sure how they are pulling this off but they keep finding ways to win. They didn't even play well today and still managed to come out on top. Throwing the ball around on D, giving up the tying run on walks and a HBP and getting only 3 hits. You have to think this will eventually catch up to them....but...baseball is an odd game in so many ways. They've done most everything assbackwards but are still in the fight. You can't help but admire that.

I really thought the Hendricks reclamation project would be a catastrophe but I have to admit he has hung tough.

I think with him, it's certain teams....he does well vs some, horrible vs others. With his FB in the 80's, he'll never be what he was but can be useful as a 5 or spot starter.

His fastball was always in the 80's though!

Nah, low 90s when he was at his best. Just enough to make his off speed stuff effective.

His 4 seam broke 90 2015/16. But that pitch is rare for him. Sinker is his bread and butter. Half of his pitches are sinkers. Then he counters with a change and cutter. 2018 he scrapped the cutter.

This year he is healthy. For the most part he is a sinker/change guy. pretty much 50/50 on them. half of that value is 4 seam. I'm guessing that is when he goes up in the zone.

Earlier in his career he would get pop ups. This year his GB rate has gone up due to going down in the zone more. Which makes sense with the GG level D in the IF.

So today should be interesting. I could see Jed targeting a SP. The Doubble Header game 2 as of right now would be Kilian. But Jed could target Clevenger or Gio

Clevinger’s $8MM salary isn’t the issue, as most teams could easily accommodate the roughly $1.5MM still to be paid out. Yet there’s also a $4MM buyout on a $12MM mutual option for next season.

Now this is not a bad option going into 2024 as he replaces Stroman. But if they feel that Stroman will remain. 5.5M is not a bank buster and having a arm like his is a boon

Randal Grichuk Clears Waivers
August 31st, 2023 at 12:39pm CST • By Steve Adams
Angels outfielder Randal Grichuk was not claimed on outright waivers, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan. He’ll remain with the Halos unless they surprisingly choose to outright him to a minor league affiliate, at which point Grichuk would have the right to elect free agency.

Bit shocking on Clevenger. I was thinking that Jed might go there. I guess he feels good on Kilian on game 2.

Clevenger would be a horrible person to pick up in a clubhouse that is great.

Ya was not following him until you posted that. He seem the jack ass type for sure. Can see why all teams did a hard pass.
