Now lets give the example of the wife wanting to go to the amusement park and it is the last weekend that it is open, ie Fright Fest. It's her birthday and the Bears are on. She has no other opportunity to go. I might be upset a little that she didn't think of this ahead of time to go the week before. But I would go and tape the game in this case. Why? Because I knew this was what she wanted and there was no other time she could go. AKA I wanted to. At that point, I wanted to give into her request over watching the Bears game.

Watching a football game being no different than any of those other things is my point. Any of those things could be something someone might enjoy doing. Whatever it is, as long as it is not hurting yourself or others... you should continue to do it.

Right. So DVR the game and watch it later. Problem solved.

I'm taken aback that there are grown men who would protest having to do something nice on their wife/girlfriend's birthday like a spoiled brat because they can't miss "da bears". Jesus. LOL.

You need to get out more. A lot of times they do walking tours, rides etc around them.

In either case, you're missing the point. Dude is bitching about missing a Bears game because his g/f wants to go do something on her birthday. Not that big of a deal. Go to the winery, smile, let her enjoy her birthday, come home watch the game on DVR.

Dude... I went to 5 different Winery's in Napa Valley last November all in one day. And everyone one of them had a tour of the vineyard. You can do 1 winery in 2 hours max.

Again, why is it that you can't see that her picking that very time is her way of being manipulative?

I'd poke her in the pooper then tell her I'm off to the bar & Happy Birthday!

It's not about "the Bears". Atleast to me. It could be anything that I CAN ONLY DO AT THAT VERY TIME. Say I was supposed to play golf with a friend who flew in for the weekend and our tee time was at noon. That would constitute the same way.

And taping the game is not "problem solved". You are going to know the score and the outcome. It's not the same.

Grand conspiracy here by the parents to manipulate some guy some random Sunday by giving birth on that day.

It's been a while since I lived in NYC let alone went across the river but I'm pretty sure wineries in Jersey are open until 2 AM

Translation: I didn't do the tours, I just did tastings.

Because I'm not delusional and paranoid

Tour and tasting.

You may not be paranoid but you are a white knight. Good chance that your significant other is cheating on you bro.

Why would you schedule that on your g/f's birthday? Any reasonable human would assume she MIGHT want to do something that day.

How? Why? Do you have ESP?

I knew the outcome last week but had a birthday dinner to go to...I still watched it.

It's not really that big of a deal.

This.

If she's doing this shit EVERY weekend or all the time, without warning. Yeah sure, she's being manipulative or whatever.

It's her fucking birthday and she wants to go out to a winery and SPEND A DAY THAT OBVIOUSLY MEANS A LOT TO HER WITH YOU.

How fucking selfish are you? Your significant other wants to spend her day with you and you're bitching over missing a shitdick NFL game?

In all honesty, **** off and grow up.

It might not be on her exact birthday. Most birthdays fall during the week 5 out 7 times. Lots of times they celebrate on the weekend. The friend might have been flying in and the plans were made well before you decided when to celebrate the birthday.

I have missed Bears games before and everytime (assuming I was in Chicago when I missed it), there were people that would chatter about the game.

Perhaps because secure men don't have alarm clocks going off in their mind every time a woman makes a suggestion. The fact that you would even think along these lines is weird. Stop being so emotionally fragile and frantically overthinking everything. It's a trip to a winery for her b'day. Either be a sport and suck it up, or protest like a needy brat. I really don't think it's a big deal.

And taping the game is not "problem solved". You are going to know the score and the outcome. It's not the same.

Who cares? It's a fucking week 5 game against Detroit, it's not the Superbowl. Don't be a ***** about it.
