LMAO. Pete Rose seems like he bet the Giants!!! Suck it you fat pig.

He was so incredibly awkward. Alex Rodriquez was actually very good. Very articulate, didn't stumble over words at all and used the presenter coaching he got - he addressed people by their names, he turned his body towards the person when they spoke and he used the other person's name which means 'I'm throwing it over to you now'

Rose just blurted out random nonsense. Interrupting, etc.

I was in a bar watching the post game and one woman commented 'that guy might be the ugliest person I've ever seen'.

I will admit I was a little on the downside of this team earlier in this game but I never said they were garbage.

Sent from my Samsung S6 Edge

I don't think anyone said they were garbage. People - like me - rightfully said they were playing terribly. The bats simply were not hitting. Rizzo still has not hit. Neither has Fowler. The big guns who are expected to perform haven't outside of Bryant. Rizzo and Fowler have been terrible. Zobrist was as well. Hopefully that hit turns things around.

The key RBI in this series were from pitchers, a 39 year old catcher, a backup catcher/pinch hitter and a guy who doesn't play every day (Baez). The team BA was horrendous for the whole series. The fact that they won in spite of all that really is amazing.

As for the pitching - both teams needed their #4 starters to pitch a gem. Moore did. Lackey didn't. Moore pitched 8 innings of 2 hit ball. Lackey lasted 4 innings.

So, there was ample reason to be upset with the play of the team.

Not one person expected what happened in the 9th to happen. Why? Because it's never happened before in playoff baseball. Especially with the team with dead bats.

Bochy really screwed the pooch on this one. Moore was dealing. Worst bullpen since the stats were kept (1969). Moore's pitch count was 120, but he just finished the 8th in which the Cubs went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts.

The Cubs bats came through in stunning fashion in the 9th, but Bochy's terrible decisions to keep trotting out the bums from that awful bullpen gave them a gift.

Arod surprised me as well.

If he bring up his bb% to 8%. He becomes a superstar.

Ya, that is how close he is. You see that the starters all have strong BB rates running. That is most likely why he hasn't bumped some one yet.

You and a couple others had this team done for the season already. And what happened in the 9th has happened 3 other times, all in the 86 postseason.

The BCB game threads from last night are a hoot:

"They are mentally broken.
A day off and getting back to Chicago had better help.

This is one of the worst games this team has ever played. Just an unforgivable approach to each at-bat."

http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2016...s-vs-giants-tuesday-10-11-7-30-ct/in/13005841

Mentally broken indeed.

Yeah and of course we had some of that here. The reality of last nights game was that Matt Moore pitched one hell of a game and the bats struggled against him, and have been struggling. Great pitching beats good hitting and he was beating us. I didn't see anyone "mentally broken" except for some of the chicken little fans. Like Maddon I didn't want any part of Cueto but I wasn't terrified of what was next. Our boys have come through all year and the numbers tell us they should keep coming through. The NLDS was the series in which we were the most vulnerable. Small sample size against very good pitching and a team that had been their before. The panic last night on all three Cubs fan sites I frequent was disturbing. Even when it was 3-2 there was talk about how Maddon sucks, the curse was real and more nonsense. Keep in mind that this was all about, at that time, a team that was up 2-1 in the series and had only lost the 1 in extras by 1 freaking run.

There is a segment of the Cubs fanbase that has gotten so wrapped up in the 108 years thing that they seethe with anger when things don't go exactly our way. Theo Epstein has built a team that will get to the playoffs most years for a stretch and that's how you win championships. Baseball is going to baseball. I don't want to lose but I don't fear it like I did with poorly constructed teams of the past. Plus this team is built around pitching and defense a refrain I remember fans bitching about, and rightfully so, in prior runs. So much of October baseball is chance. An infield hit, a guy who never makes errors making one or even two, a poor matchup in a series all these things are a part of playoff baseball. Someone said last night that Maddon was the Bobby Cox of this decade alluding to the fact that the Braves got their a lot but only won once. If you honestly think that diminishes the greatness of Bobby Cox and his Braves teams of a decade and a half you haven't got a clue about this game. True fans are critical of the play on the field when warranted but not angry, spiteful and frankly hateful. That's bush league.

Well written, and I personally deserve this beating.

Javy Baez is one of the most dangerous defensive weapons I've ever seen. He's an elite 2B, an elite SS, an elite 3B and could probably be an elite CF. And I can't think of a better manager to deploy him than Maddon. I love Zobrist - but Javy will be playing 2B from here on out. Zobrist is an incredibly clutch hitter and a versatile defender -- but he's better suited in the OF now.

All year I kept touting Russell because he's such a good two-way player. But I had it wrong -- it's Baez that is the juggernaut.

Don't sleep on Russell. As he gets better and improves his OPS he's going to be a stud, not that he's chopped liver now. Both guys have high ceiling that look within reach.

The thing that has always struck me with regard to the 1908 stuff is this stat. IIRC this is only the 3rd time the cubs have been to back to back playoffs. That's legitimately nuts. It makes a bit more sense when you consider the pre-NLDS era but even then it goes to show the cubs haven't built long sustained teams with success. Last year it was easy to argue "wait until 2016." To be honest, I think you can make a strong case that the 2017 cubs on paper might be a better team than either of the past 2 teams who did make the playoffs with Schwarber returning and Heyward hopefully not being god awful.

The Cubs are poised to be similar to the 1906-1910 teams whose worst season in that stretch was 99 wins. This current team certainly compares more favorably from a pythagorean standpoint than they do to the last WS appearance, the 1945 team.

Could be. There will have to be some pitching tweaks, it's almost impossible to expect the same staff to be healthy and effective for 3 years, but by and large this team is more likely to improve than decline anytime soon.

Frank Thomas seemed really happy that the Cubs won. Which I thought was cool considering he was a White Sox player for years.

From an individual stand point, Baez, Russell, Kris Byant, Contreras and Almora are all so young -- they have a ways to go before they are polished. Rizzo is 27 so I wouldn't expect astronomical improvement, but he's got years before he shows decline. Heyward will certainly improve from his horrible season this year.

From a positional player standpoint, this team is stacked for a long, long time. We'll just have to buy pitching.
