An article from 2013... like I said with the benefit of hindsight. Clearly Stewart gave them nothing so you can't say it was a good trade. But if they don't make that trade they have no one to play 3B anyways. And regardless, it's not like we're talking about them giving up Ernie Banks in this trade. They gave up Colvin who gave the Rockies next to nothing and DJ. I just don't see the point in complaining about this trade. Should we complain that the cubs gave up Zambrano for an equally useless for Volstad?

Both trade were entirely inconsequential. DJ doesn't make the 2014 or 2015 cubs better. Nothing realistic would have made the 2012-13 cubs good enough to truly matter. So what are we complaining about here? This is literally a case of finding a warm body to play 3B.

Nice BS and cya you have there.

I don't even know what you're point of contention here. I never once said it was a good trade for the cubs. I said it made sense and could have worked out just like trading for Arrieta and Strop could have been two players who never were. Anyone bitching about the trade has yet to come up with a plausible solution at 3B that the cubs clearly were hoping Stewart was when they made the trade outside of keeping ARam.

What do you want here? You want me to be pissed at the cubs for making this trade? Sorry, Colvin who was at best a 4th/5th outfielder and DJ who's a fringe starter at best aren't going to get me riled up. Not every trade works out. That's the way baseball works. Spare me this outrage that the cubs lost two marginal players trying to fill a position they had nothing at in 2012. If there's anything to be outraged about it is that the front office did so poorly acquiring talent the years leading up to 2012 that lead them to have to go outside the organization to find a 3B in 2012 when they let ARam walk in FA.

Yes, I remember. The 12 posts whining about a three year old trade of a nonessential asset had me on the edge of my seat. Too bad it was in the game thread, instead of discussion about the game.

Ain't that the truth!!! Some of the jamoke's are so busy trying to impress everyone that they are just the smartest thing goin........ that they forgot to watch the Cubs pull out a big win and take the series! What a freakin joke. Our fearless leader......

Nice come from behind win! Not something this team would have done last season. First week of the season in the books and it's looking promising so far. I just think they are gonna get better as the season goes on.
Go Cubs go!! :cubs::woot:

One series at a time my man, one series at a time! :yep:

Good trades, bad trades.... blah, blah, blah. I'm running with the team I got now, and that includes our shiny new Ace, who is set to go tomorrow against Leake. It certainly will be nice to see Lester come out smoking after his 1st mediocre start. Heck, maybe he might even throw over to 1st once? :dunno:

A high majority of "control" or "finesse" pitchers get figured out because they don't have the hammer, or the mid-high 90s fastball to help them, so they rely on location.

I'm basing it off the trend. There's only one Greg Maddux, and he was an exception to the rule. Teams now have game tape on this kid, so he doesn't have the element of surprise the way he did last summer, just like Randy Wells in 2010 and beyond.

If he were truly something special in the making, he wouldn't be 5th in the rotation behind recycled garbage in Travis Wood and a 1/2 year wonder (last year) in Jason Hammel.

I'm not completely writing him off. 80%. He gets 2 more starts from me.

Glavine and Buerhle are also recent examples of control pitchers and the former went into the HOF on the first ballot the same year as Mad Dog.

Nice job by Maddon today. I particularly liked his use of Wood as a PH early to make sure he had bats on the bench late. Also I'm in total disbelief that Latroy Hawkins is still employed in MLB....but for today at least, I'm glad he is.
