No plan, no farm left….dumpster fire

well said. Which is why at this point, the best plan is to trade away these guys for whatever lottery tickets you can get in prospects, and free up the future financial flexibility.

they could easily be in a really good situation in a couple years of they do it, where they will have some young guys coming up with team control and the financial room to add talent in FA where needed to complement the talent coming up. Like we’ve seen before

I dont agree they have no farm. I think they have a few building blocks but mostly a few years out. Absolutely the best plan would be to sell and reload. Sign some guys in the offseason to flip next year, then start signing long term pieces the following year

I called it a few days ago…the bullpen is starting to unwind. It couldn’t be expected to keep it up with the type of usage it has had to this point of the season

Every year there are high points and low points. Let’s hope this is the official low.
Hard to diagnose a team that will still be 3 games over as a shit show, but not sure what else to call this mode of baseball currently.

I'm kinda of two minds here. Obviously I enjoy the cubs winning.... but the team is probably better longer term selling in july. The thing is... like typically people kinda just wanna tank with the idea being you'll get a better pick next year. But if the cubs do reach a point of selling off, the early season success probably benefits them because it's a lot easier to sell say Kris Bryant when he's got a 132 wRC+ than a Kris Bryant who's playing poorly.

Can't remember if i said this on here before or not but this team reminds me a lot of the 2016 yankees in that they had a bunch of big names they could move and weren't fully tearing it down.

Also FWIW, Owen Caissie who they got in the darvish trade is apparently getting "sensational" reviews during extended spring training.

Well time to call the white Sox. Bryant and Kimbrel for Vaughn and Stiever. I'll even toss Sogard in.

They should just sell now. No point on sitting on it.

Looks like it is back to 2011-2014 time where I will be monitoring the minor leagues more closely than the major league team for a couple years.

...why would they be loving this? They are not only the owners but have also always been fans of the team.

They get to sell. Try to rebuild all while making money. Does this team need an overhaul? Sure. Never should have been in this position though... tired of the "No Money" crap from them.

Nah it's not that bad. The cubs had *nothing* in their system back then. Cubs have pieces now but just not anything elite elite but then that's sorta what you'd hope to get for the trade pieces they have

This is the only year theyve cut payroll big time and claimed no money. They were still paying the luxury tax last year with a payroll around $210 million
