If there was one place to get an injury a LF is the best. Szczur has started off hot. Soler is obviously a quality talent. Bryant played LF last night. As mentioned in theory Zobrist can play there. In some ways it helps a guy like Soler get the playing time he probably needs. So, I'm glad it's that vs say Russell getting hurt. With Baez out they are particularly thin on the infield.

I agree that of all the Cubs starters, Schwarber is the most replaceable, but still...I would hate to have it be a season-ending injury. Let's hope it's just a bad knee sprain and he's only out 8-12 weeks. I worry about what major ligament damage could do to a player who doesn't have a ton of mobility to begin with.

Anybody catch what Buster Olney just said on 1000?

Cubs Organization is worried it is something very serious with his knee. Hoping that isn't the case. Yes, the Cubs are deep but boy that would suck. Fingers crossed, next man up.

It turns that player into an AL DH. A severe enough injury to that knee eliminates his dream of being a big league catcher. I hope this isn't serious and whatever the issue, he can get back physically to being 100% healthy.

I never thought about the catching aspect. That would indeed be a problem but the other side of the coin is that NFL running backs come back from serious knee injuries, so he wouldn't be purely a DH....he could still play left field or even first base.

The Cubs don't need a 1B.

Not at the moment....doubtful that Rizzo will play 162+ games at 1B, plus you got the injury aspect. Just saying that you don't have to pencil him in as a bat only player after knee surgery, if that's what is required.

No, but he isn't extremely fast. If that knee would be a problem that doesn't heal right, he's an AL DH.

While it sucks Schwarber is gone and I wish him nothing but a speedy recovery, what I love about the game is there's always someone else. In this case is likely Soler and maybe Baez some more down the line. But it's also giving Kawasaki who had an excellent spring a chance. If Alcantara hits AAA well we might even see him sooner rather than later which I'd love as a big proponent of his. The reason you sign someone like Heyward and the after him Fowler is for this very scenario.

Just thought of something earlier..
Schwarber been catching Hammel all spring as he was suppose be his personal Catcher this year..
Wondering how much of an effect that will have on Hammel especially early on as he gets reacquainted with Ross and Montero

Hammell as close to Kyle as anyone on team and also kinda counting on him as his secret weapon from the catcher spot,

Pitching his heart out tonight. This ones for you Kyle.
