Extremely frustrating loss. It represents many of the concerns I have about this team. There are no must win games in July but if the cubs lose tomorrow you have to wonder how it will impact their confidence.

The final Pirates game before the break was a must-win. It saved our season. A loss would have been a death blow to the season.

Last nights loss was brutal though. Losing the series would be devastating.

Last night was a tough loss, that 9th was especially rough, but my biggest concern with this team took a positive turn in Arrieta's pitching. It was his best start in months, the mechanics looked better, he had command if his fastball and their was no sign of that slider flattening out like it had recently. It's not as good as a win but it makes me feel better.

The Cubs lose tomorrow and I feel no better than I did during the "slump".

More than just the wins or losses,I look at the fact we have had four very good starting pitching performances and one that was fine, in five games. That's a good sign.

I feel that the player profile that Theo wanted. OBA types vs BA types is causing the issue in tight games/come back games.

Most of these guys are struggling to sniff .300. But most make up for it in their ability to take walks.

Even loading the bases with walks they are looking for that big hit out of .260 hitters vs guys that hit for contact.

Maybe that is something they need to add at the dead line. A contact hitter. They have a bunch of players that profile the same.

Almora fits that profile but you want a vet then a LH counter part. Guys that are good at using the whole field

I believe that is the factor that led KC past the Mets last year.

I love the Mets pitching - the young guys anyway - not a Colon fan. I wish Theo would have made his rebuild focus around strong young arms and not so many hitters as the strong arms typically rule the roost more often than not. I sure don't want to see the Mets in the playoffs, especially with cold weather. I have a feeling that what happened last year would happen again. While our SPs have been good this year, I don't see them as being World Series capable. Good start yesterday for Jake though. I hope he makes a habit of it.

The problem with that is the injuries. Harvey has had TJ surgery for the Mets and now is out with another issue, Wheeler is struggling to return from TJ and Syndergaard and Matz are both very high probability candidates for the surgery as well. On the flipside the Cubs rotation is 4th in MLB after the Dodgers, Mets and Nationals and just a hair above Cleveland. The Dodgers being #1 is largely on Kershaw's shoulders as I don't think they're quite that good and I probably like Cleveland's rotation a little better than the Cubs. It's aslo hard to build a good team around great pitchers as we see on the South Side and a little bit with the Mets.

If the cubs had taken Mark Appel or Max Fried in the 2012 draft neither are at the major league level yet. If they had taken Jon Gray or Kohl Stewart you don't get one of the likely best hitters of his generation in Bryant. I suppose you could argue for Aaron Nola over Schwarber but Nola's hardly an ace. Good pitcher no doubt but he's not what the cubs are missing.

This really isn't an accurate representation of what the organizational focus is. What the front office wants is players who can find their pitch to hit and lay off the rest. Now in simple terms that does generally mean lower average higher on base but it's not as simple as saying draft the guys who walk. For example, take Almora. He's not going to walk a ton. But if he's swinging pitches he can drive they don't care. The idea here is that they care more about the quality of the at bat than they do an empty hit. Ultimately, singles don't generally score runs. So, you want your hitters to hit for extra bases and that comes from finding your pitch rather than just swinging at strikes.

Hendricks is on the mound today. Might as well just fly the W already.

More and more lately I've had a problem with Maddon and his batting orders and defensive line up. Today for example, Montero should not be in the line up.
1- Heyward should be in right
2-Almora should be in center
3 Bryant should be in left
4-Baez should be at 3rd
5 Zobrist should be at 2nd
6 Contreras should be catching.

He has Zobrist in right. Not his best position. Has gold glove rightfielder Heyward playing center. Lets face it, hes not as good in center as right. Has Gold glove to be Almora on the bench instead of playing center so Montero can play. Has Baez playing 2nd instead of 3rd where he would be better than Bryant especially with sinker baller Hendricks pitching. Hope it doesn't matter today and we score 15 runs.

My favorite teams
  1. Colorado Rockies
  1. Atlanta United FC
  1. Los Angeles Lakers
  2. Orlando Magic
  3. Phoenix Suns
  4. Sacramento Kings
  1. Columbus Blue Jackets
Hope it doesn't matter today and we score 15 runs.
Yeah, typical Cubs "pile on" win. Score a ton of runs when it doesnt matter but cant come from behind or score a damn run with bases loaded and no one out. Go Cubs!!!!!!

He wants Baez and Russell up the middle for Hendricks starts. We talked about this in his last start. Maddon wants his strongest D up the middle when Hendricks starts. Almora is struggling at the plate. If this was a lefty, he would play.
