Heck of a game today. STL loses too. Let's get that sweep tomorrow!

it seems like they realize they got to get their shit together fast now. But other times Ive thought that this year they go out and lose games they should be winning. They need to win today and sweep Cincy next series. But cincy has played us well this year so hoping they don't lose 2/3 to them.

There are no lead off F/A on the market in 2019-20. It is a pitching deep market so the investment should be there

Add to it Rizzo is the #7 ranked OBA in baseball.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Not just the Cubs....it's all of baseball. It's killing a lot of strategy that used to be used.....SB, hit n run, bunting....it's the almighty Home Run in today's game. But IMOP, this will not last....just a phase the game is going through instigated by MLB itself with it's juiced baseballs and small parks.
I think it will go back a bit and not just because of "juiced balls and small parks". There is a lot of value for guys who can control the barrel that's being missed. Tough outs are being missed. When the wind is blowing in, the long ball method doesn't do a lot of favors for the big boppers. Lineups should be more balanced. So the Cubs have 7 guys with 20 HR. Are they winning the WS this year? That tells you how important having 7 guys in the lineup with 20 HR is. I want some guys who can hit over .300 consistently. I want some guys who can scoot around the bags. Do the Cardinals have 7 guys with 20 HR? Only 3? How is it possible they are on top of the division?

MADDON AND THEO WAITING ON THE HR AS THEIR PRIME STRATEGY. WE KNOW THAT IT WON'T WORK IN THE PLAYOFFS OR EVEN IN THE REGULAR SEASON, AS WITNESSED BY ALL THE 1-0, 2-1 LOSSES. FACE IT THIS IS A SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN AVERAGE TEAM

Lead off hitter needs to be able to hit to all fields. Rizzo can't hit a ball to left field. That's going to be a problem over the long haul.

All baseball team's philosophy's are like this now, not just the Cubs. The team that can manufacture runs will be hard to beat. That's why those Giants teams that won 3 world series this decade won. They didnt rely on the long ball but grinding out runs mixed w/ good pitching.

yes. he's the only guy on the cubs who's not trying to hit the ball out of the ballpark every ab. I guess these days they call this an old fashioned baseball player. Baseball would be so much better with more Bob Denier's.

We have plenty of those guys on the roster and you hate them all......but baseball needs more of them?

If you list enough numbers it makes it near impossible to find that player, but there are without a doubt better leadoff options. The first two box scores I looked at had LeMahieu and Lindor leading off. I’d take either of them leading off ahead of Rizzo

Also nationals have two great leadoff options in Turner and Eaton. I’d love to have one of them at the top of the lineup.

None of those guys are available

None of those guys have anywhere near close an obp as Rizzo

Those guys walk rates are even further off the obp compared to rizzo

You want a 1980's roster in 2019, not happening. Until the cubs get someone who can get on base at a 380+ % rizzo is by far the best option the way this roster is constructed as the name of the game is to get on base.

KB with 30 hrs this year. I think that's the quietest 30 ever. I was thinking he had like low 20s coming into the game.

Good start. Hope Q doesn't give it all back next half inning.

you want rizzo to drive in runs or hit the big hr w/ guys on. It's a small sample size but he's not going to do it for a whole year. He's not built as a leadoff hitter. He's doing it because he's asked to.

Plugging guys into leadoff when they're not killed some of these guys last 3 years, Schwarb , Heyward, etc.. Once they got out of leadoff they've performed better.

I don't think the new manager next year will bat Rizzo leadoff anyway. Unless he's told by Theo.

Theo's suppose to be a genius. he needs to find a guy next offseason. But then again, he's not done that last 3 offseasons.

You don't see the league's best teams - Dodgers and Yankees - relying on lots of HR's!!

Oh, wait.

Actually, that's exactly what they do.

(Along with pretty much every other team this year, since HRs are at a record high. Did you miss that???)

he's been hurt last 2 years - now we know this year about the knee. If he's hurt, he needs to sit. Not try to play thru it. Because when he tries to do that, he's not as good.

So, you want them to NOT swing for a HR, but DO swing for a long fly ball?

i think he's saying these guys need to learn how to hit to manufacture runs and not try to hit a hr when the wind is blowing in 30 mph. But that's the entire MLB. Nobody knows situation hitting other than a few teams like the Astros, A's, and sometimes the Dodgers.
