So for those who've seen Adeventureland, is this a movie to go see with the guys? Or is it more of a girly love story movie (not that there's anything terribly wrong with that providing it has some good laughs?

More of a date movie than a guy movie.

It's a romantic comedy, so definitely a movie you see with a girl.

Although when I went, on the first day, at the 10:20 PM showing, it was just tons of groups of guys. They really misrepresented this movie in the previews and such, as being a comedy in the ilk of Super Bad.

It's not a bad movie. It has a lot of laughs. But it isn't really a great movie either. I'd say a nice movie you go to with a nice girl on a Saturday night and go see.

The ending parts at the end of the summer when they're closing down Adventure Land seems really anti-climatic, but I think they were just going for some realism there, as I'm sure that is how it would be in real life. But realism doesn't necessarily make for a good film.

Re:OT: Movie talk

I was a little worried for Adventureland when some of the advertising was pitching it as "from the director who brought you Superbad...".

There isn't really much the two movies have in common at all. I hate when studios screw up the marketing for a film. They completely misrepresented The Watchmen in most of the TV spots as well. The original trailer last summer really captured the spirit of the movie, but the spots on TV leading up to the release made it seem like a superhero popcorn flick. I know there were lots of confused people.

Re:OT: Movie talk

I'm a huge movie and cinema fan, but I must say I've been more drawn towards TV series in recent times, just because they seem to have more flexibility and better writing. I can't even remember the last good movie I've watched, though I do remember the last movie I watched was Watchmen and I was extremely underwhelmed.

I tend to watch the bigger block buster or action type of movies at the cinemas, and leave the others to watch at home, because I don't feel it's worth watching dramas, romance or comedies at the cinemas unless it's with a group of people or if your girly gives you the dirty look if you say no.

I managed to get a copy of the pre-production print version of the new Wolverine film and though there are certain parts of the movie where you can see the roping and blue screen where they intend to put in special effects over, the movie was a disappointment. I guess the bar has been risen to an extent with Iron Man and the 2 Nolan Batman movies that all the other comic back adaptation movies just don't seem to fair in comparison.

Oh, before Watchmen I also watched 'Knowing' and though I absolutely love the director(which is the reason why I watched it) as he made 2 of my favorite movies(amongst other) 'The Crow' and 'Dark City', I think my passionate dislike for Nicolas Cage was too strong, and the ending just wasn't executed well.

I'm very much looking forward to;

Block-busters

Public Enemies: I love Michael Mann and his movies, especially' Heat'. I need to watch that movie at least twice a year, that's how much I love it. Though Miami Vice was a little underwhelming it was still entertaining I thought, but way below Mann's usual standards, I expect him to get back to form with this movie.

Terminator Salvation: I was a little iffy about this movie, once Cameron left after the second, the third just didn't have that dark feel to it and it just wasn't the same. But I saw the trailer watching 'Watchmen' and I must say I'm actually eager to watch it, it seems to be a lot grittier than the third and I'm looking forward to how they advance the technology with the robots.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: How can you not look forward to Transformers?

G.I Joe: The Rise of the Cobra: I know i know, it looks stupid. But sometimes stupid can be good for a laugh.

Others on my list to watch

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3: Just looks awesome. You can't go wrong with Tony Scott and Denzel if you want an action drama movie, and then add in a sinister looking Travolta, I think we've got a good one here folks.

Inglorious Bastards: Quentin Taratino, enough said.

Shutter Island: Martin Scorsese, enough said. I just realized I may be drawn to directors more than the actors/actresses.

Where the Wild Things are: Again, another director I really like, Spike Jonze. It just looks like a quirky-dream like type of movie that I'm hoping will be good.

Wolf Man: Del Toro, C'mon, how can anyone not be excited about this movie?!

Alright, rambled on long enough.

Manic, I just got a copy of Wolverine as well but was thinking of waiting until the actual movie is released. Is it worth waiting or are the un-edited scenes not too often?

Where The Wild Things Are looks awesome! I used to love that book as a kid, can't wait to see it.

Yeah, I saw the trailer as well - looks very promising.

As for the Wolverine movie, it wasn't the fact that the special effects weren't complete that really troubled me, it's just the story and an over-abundance of characters they shoved into the movie. I mean, I think they should have centralized the movie around Wolverine and had 1 or 2 other characters in the movie, yet it seems to be similar to the older X-men movies where there were just too many characters and you can't really get involved in the character developments because of it.

It's a shame because I like Hugh Jackman and what he does with Wolverine, but I think they took the wrong approach and it will be the downfall of the movie.

Re:OT: Movie talk

To be fair, they did go back and add another 20 minutes to Wolverine during re-shoots in just the last couple of months or so. It's my understanding that the footage is not currently included in the work print that was leaked last week.

I think that was a common complaint with this cut of the film. Supposedly, some of that gets addressed with the additional footage. Who knows really? I just wanted to throw that out there.

Saw The Last House On The Left a couple weeks ago.

Damned disturbing, but I thought it was a good suspense/horror movie.

I felt a sincere sense of dread during several parts of the firm and some of the sequences were pretty suspenseful.

The dialogue was amusing at times, but I feel it was purposely so.

I would not recommend it to everyone since its really messed up but I had a good time at the movies that day.

Just watched Marley and Me last night. It was enjoyable, but nothing I'd run out and try to convince people to see. Worth a rental if you have a night in with the girlfriend/wife etc though.

I just bought that on blu-ray last week. Was ok...had the fiance in tears at the end (big surprise). The part where the dog disobeys the dog teacher, then jumps on her, then humps her leg was great.

We'd really like to get a dog soon, and will once my fiance finishes school this spring and we get moved into a house. Having 1 cat in an apartment is enough for us right now...cant imagine a dog.

Re:OT: Movie talk

I saw The Haunting in Conneticut a weekend or two ago. Typical haunted house movie, but I did actually enjoy it. Had a few twists in it that I didn't see coming, and the "based on a true story" makes it a little bit chilling, but I'm not sure whether or not this mirrored real life reports or not.

Overall a 7 out of 10 IMO....a good rent.

I do remember the last movie I watched was Watchmen and I was extremely underwhelmed.

I thought the Watchman was quite good. I didn't think it was outstanding, but definitely enjoyable. They did an amazing job with Rorschach's character. They also pulled off John (dr. Manhattan aka the godlike blue guy) very well. Lori (silk spector) and nighthawk (forget his other name) were only so-so, and their lack of acting didn't help the movie too much.

I was sort of mixed on Ozymandis (the bad guy). I think he did a decent job playing a smub gazillionaire, but certain aspects of his character were a little off the mark. I also think they did a great job with the ending which I found better than the original comic ending.

My buddy I went with hated the movie though and said the whole thing was pointless.

I, personally, loved Watchmen. I'd say my group of friends was pretty split down the middle in terms of who liked it and who didn't. It really helped if you were already a fan of the source material.

Re:OT: Movie talk

We watched part of ?????????? ??????? in my class today, aka "Burnt by the Sun". Had subtitles on. It's about Soviet Life in 1932, it's supposed to be a Soviet Union propaganda film according to our TA. It's a very strange movie.

Also, I think I'm going to go see "Fanboys" tomorrow.

1998: Fearing that their terminally ill friend might not live to see the release of the hotly-anticipated Episode I: The Phantom Menace, four Star Wars diehards hit the road for California to steal a rough cut of the film from George Lucas's Skylwalker Ranch. But their nerd-culture-infused journey won't be all fun and games when hostile run-ins with a pugnacious biker gang and hardcore Trekkies threaten to de-rail their obsessive odyssey. Featuring cameos from sci-fi alumni William Shatner and Carrie Fisher, man-child icons Seth Rogan and Danny McBride, and dry-humping Ewoks, Fanboys is a zany tribute to the epic space opera that's inspired generations of acolytes. "Pretty dang fun -- quadruply so if you happen to be a Star Wars fanatic." (Scott Weinberg, Cinematical)

Here's the trailer.

I love Star Wars, so I think this will be a really enjoyable comedy.

Marley and Me was alright. It hit home with me, because I recently lost my dog, she was almost 17.

I saw Fast and Furious. I thought it was pretty good. I didn't really care for the ending though.

True that! Or at least someone associated with 40 Year Old Version. I just saw Adventureland, which directed by the guy who directed Superbad. That movie got great reviews and I thought it sucked (though I find Kristin Stewart to be throughly enjoyable to stare at for 2 hrs). Personally, I thought I Love You Man sucked as well, which was disspointing cause I love Paul Rudd and Jason Segal.
