He'd be starting now on the jaguars or jets. That's their situation. Here he came in as the second string and he's got to win the start.

I honestly don't expect Dalton to hold on for very long. Unless our line and receivers were being held back by shit tier QBing, and Dalton somehow plays at a high level to open the season, I don't see the vet seeing snaps in October. Got your #1 jersey yet?
Right now Minshew is better than Dalton. Fields should be starting in Chicago too.

I do think Nagy seems a little out-over-his-skis as a head coach, but it's a myth that his offensive schemes suck. He sucks as a playcaller, but that's a separate issue.

As a designer, Nagy's actually really good at getting receivers open, if you watch the tape. The Bears just haven't had a quarterback who can get the ball to those receivers.

I'm really excited to see what Fields can do when paired with Nagy. I don't think Fields will disappoint. At minimum, I think he's going to be a really good quarterback for a long time.

I’ve mentioned this before but what leaves me with a sliver of hope for Nagy’s offense is that both Wilson and Stafford had the Bears on their short lists for teams they wanted to be to traded to. I don’t think an established top tier starter would want to be plugged into a system that they didn’t believe in.

To your point on Nagy the play designer vs Nagy the play caller, I do agree. His offenses have had no rhythm and a lot of the time lacked common sense calls because he’s consistently trying to out smart the opposing D rather than impose his will on the opposing D I.e. using misdirection, bootlegs, and end arounds on 3rd and 1 instead of lining up in a heavy formation and using his best RB running behind his best OL.

Now perhaps the lack of solid QB play makes the O look out of rhythm and perhaps the lack of confidence in the OL is the reasoning behind the wonky situational calls. Or perhaps Nagy is an arrogant pud wacker who would be best served working as a QB coach/passing game coordinator who never actually calls his own well designed plays.

We should find out this year.

gotta say the draft talk nonsense around fields was super strange and wildly unprofessional

all the baseless sniping

Similar shit Watson had to go through. Glad this time it benefited the Bears.

Did I miss where Minshew was a FA? There's also the roll of tutor and 2 years in the league doesn't give you a great breath of knowledge. Bears knew they were taking a QB this year, they just weren't sure where.

True but Watson did run a different O with a lot of 1/2 field stuff and some extra picks. His talent way outweighs any flaws but he still holds the ball too long and wasn't great with reads early. Makes big plays in a big play league and that's all good. I think the difference is that Fields worked hard (like Watson), stayed home and went through full field progressions yet still got an opposite rep.

I also think Watson got a bad rap for forcing it to Calvin like he did Hopkins. Smart plans.

I do agree that Fields can fill in all the blanks but I have no idea why anybody thinks Dalton is gonna fare better
game experience. He will be marginally better than foles, he can get over the top of a defense too, can scramble slightly better than foles, quicker release etc but if dumbass is calling plays that take 6 seconds to develop and the quarterback has someone in his face in 3 it doesn’t matter. The protection is my biggest concern. On paper should be better.

What the fuck does this have to do with it??? My point is, if someone thinks Fields would be starting in Jacksonville because of their situation he should be starting here too because Minshew is better than Dalton.

The Bears have Justin Fields. He will be the starting qb at some point in time this year, it's just going to be a matter of when. IMO, the when should be dependent on his command of the offense and huddle, because as soon as he has that, then he should be 'ready' to start.

So, do we really need yet another thread derail on who is the tallest midget between Dalton/Foles/Minshew in this one/etc?

Then WTF does Minshew have to do with anything here? Minshew had problems when a D changed out of their presnap read or mixed coverages. The idea was to bring in a guy that had the recognition skills to set an example, even if no longer as talented overall.
