Did Dale fail the Cubs
Or
Did the Cubs fail Dale.
did dale fail the cubs ? depends on what dale was expected to bring to the table.. i dont think wins and losses factored in his firing, i think dale was suppose to help bring core players like castro, rizzo, samardzija up a level and it didnt work out that way and if that was the case then yes he did fail them..
did the cubs fail dale ? only if they told him on day one that the plan was to put a competitive winning team on the field for 162 games over what they did. rent a decent player and trade him at the deadline and basically struggle the 2nd half.. i have to believe they were upfront with dale from the start and he knew the plan coming in,, i think the firing of dale had more to do with not getting the core players up another level and more the fact that girardi was going to be available.
That is a big question if I'm looking at this job. Am I supposed to be a savior to this team? Do I want to be that guy? If I prove to be less that iconic will I be butchered like the rest of the long list of managers in Chicago for being human and not given the tools to find success.
that a question for every potential manager/coach for every team in every sport... who to say if the yankees dont make the playoffs again in 2014 and or 2015 they dont fire him just the same.. girardi also has to ask if he unsuccessful with the yankees, does he take a chance of being fired by them and maybe its too late for the cubs spot.. im guessing this is why girardi hasnt made up his mind quite yet and may be looking deeper into the cubs situation which has the potential of being successful in the long run.. plus division wise, the cardinals right now are the cubs only serious threat year to year, the yankees will have to contend with outspending the redsox every year, Rays have found a winning formula and seem to be on the cardinals path..
That is one of the core problems of the Rickett's. They bought a team that they could not fund.
I understand the mechanics of the contract but they should have educated themselves more. It felt like a daddy bought Tommy a new car move to me and Tommy has to pay for the gas and insurance and can't afford it.
you might be right, but i think the ricketts are smarter then some give them credit for and are spending more towards the team (future)then we want to give them credit for... the international academy, ST site, updating WF, international players, the draft.. yes they havent spent on their 25 man roster as we like them too now, but they are spending their money on bettering the team and their facilities which will help bring in better players in the future...
depending on the players filling out their roster, if it consists of majority top prospects like baez, castro, rizzo, soler, etc then payroll wont go up significantly because they will be paying these players at a bargain price...
and if say at the start of 2016, we still see FA bargains starting at certain positions over top long term FAs OR high price players traded for then you and others are right about the ricketts...
im going to hold my judgement on them until after i see what they do this off season and into next off season.. i want to see more core players added to the roster whether its prospects or outside players brought in over rent a player for a season or two.. we shall wait and see..
