This is a very dramatic take. The only one of those moves that really “set the bears back” was Claypool. Davis was a dud but hardly set them back…Bates cost a 5th and is currently their backup C who could also play OG, assuming he’s healthy.

And Claypool wasn't even a love affair it was a bandaid because Poles ignored the offense for his 2nd year QB.

You have two choices and only these two, which one do you choose?

Trade up for Jeanty giving up one of our 2nd rounders and a 2026 3rd?

Taking Tyler Warren or C.Loveland at #10?

I certainly wouldn't over pay to move up for anyone we would draft so a trade up with your prices isn't happening.
And it's most likely not happening with anyone in this draft because that player isn't there.
It has to be a bidding war to cause an over pay.

I'm just checking in on the draft now. Why all the jeanty hate folks? Looks like he has great balance, very quick feet and explosive acceleration. That's my impression based only on highlights only. Was he that much less impressive in games?

The Bears drafted Enis and Benson. Bears fans are still butt hurt about it so we can never draft another high RB again.

Let time run out and forfeit the pick vikings style

I remember Benson alright. Dumping thomas jones. Good times lol! Whatever about poles ben johnson deserves some trust and if he wants jeanty I'm not going to complain. Caleb was trying to play hero ball too much last year. Let the rb carry the load.

Poles record on draft day pick moves - In three drafts, he's moved up a grand total of once, the small move from 61 to 55 for Stevenson. He's had one lateral pick swap (a 5th {Booker} last year for this year's 4th). And he moved down seven times. So, based on his past trend, Poles is more likely to move down than up. However, he's far more likely to just stay where he is and take who's there...
Introducing these type of facts to the discussion will really hamper the dick ripping about things that haven't happened . Please stop.

Ah more about pick value/trading away picks than the player as such. Fair enough. Looks pretty good though.
Yea, for me personally, not to give a super longwinded answer:
  • I do think Jeanty is special and the best RB in the class. I would bet against the Bears picking a better RB in this class at 39 or later.
    • I know Ben can still make a number of RBs look really good if the line is functional, so I don't see a need to be desperate.
  • RBs general shelf life is a concern for a top 10 pick. A starting OT can last a decade. Any RB that gets that far is definitely an exception. This leads into the positional value stuff too.
    • Throwing premium draft picks (2nd rounders) into this just kills me even more.
  • RBs are cheaper to obtain otherwise... trades, free agency, etc. Premium QBs, OTs, Edges, DTs more rarely become available.
  • If the Bears got Jeanty, I would be excited to watch him. It's not about that.

If Jeanty can block I'm OK with it (at 10). A blocking RB counts as an oline boost to me plus everything else a good RB brings to a team.

That's from this year. This time last year, Ollie Gordon was the Doak Walker winner, and this year is widely considered a 3rd day pick.
Never said they should get you drafted #4. You asked if he was recognized as a top talent.

Can't disagree with your points but I was a little underwhelmed by swift and johnson last year. Would be nice to have a rb who could create yards and take some pressure off the young QB.

I think Jacksonville just maybe isn't that interested in Graham or any other prospect at 5. Suddenly they are linked to Jeanty and Warren at 5 as those are really the only available players that maybe someone is interested in trading up for.

Maybe they are hoping some team that really wants Jeanty will trade up to 5 with them so they can get out of that spot.

I absolutely hate Ryan Poles and think he has made huge mistakes, but I refuse to believe he is dumb enough to trade up to 5 to draft a RB. I don't buy it.
Question isnt whether Poles is dumb enough to trade up for Jeanty but whether Johnson is given the Lions took Gibbs high in 2023. If the rumors are true it is obvious this is Johnson pushing for this.

He's not a good blocker.

That doesn't matter at this time.
If that's who Poles takes at 10 all I can do is wait and see if he's a good blocker. Then in a year or two I could look back and decide if it was a good pick.

If he trades up without a steal of a deal that makes it being a good pick much more difficult since he takes up 2 spots that could've been oline or dline.
