Here's a scenario and my vote is no:

Everyone is angry with how Chelios left the Hawks to go to Detroit.

What about when Bobby Hull left Chicago for the WHA?
Unfortunately many blame that strictly on Wirtz. In any case Bobby did play 15 season with the 'Hawks, was a dominate force in the game during that time, won a boat load of trophies, set the goal scoring record at 54, and scored 50 goals in a season 5 times. Huge accomplishments for that era.

Yup, and should retire as such.

So you say 40% more Eruns, and then question Savard who spent nearly 90% as a Hawk?

Chelios = Great Player

Chelios = Chicago HOF, not a chance.
The Savard question was aimed at puckjim since he kept bringing up Cheli's lack of Cup here, that's all. And the 40% in Chicago is more than his time with any other team.

The fact is... He didn't... He played more than 3 years .... AND he joined the Wings front office. What's done is done. He made his grave. Let him lie in it.

Now, to figure in your conceptual question here... lets say he only played 2-3 years.... wouldn't matter. He still fueled the fire by joining the Wangs after his false promises took effect.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." You know that line, right? I'm sure that's how you guys all felt when Chelios decided to join the Wangs after what he said. For that reason alone, I'm sure a lot of you were angry about it at the time.
I wonder if people who continually bring up that Mike North interview still believe in Santa and the Easter Bunny as well?

90% of his Career was spent in Chicago. Not to much for Chelios who asked for a trade to get out of town.

No thanks.
Not to mention he was a coach and is still a team ambassador.

Or him patrolling the sidelines of a Green Bay/Chicago game at Soldier Field wearing Packers gear.

If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, then he's STILL an asshole.

barely. If you check he played more YEARS in Detroit than anywhere and is still working in their front office. Not to mention winning THREE CUPS with them. That says he's a Redwing to me.

Actually, I never brought up Cheli's lack of a 'Cup here. Savard played over 90% of his career here, is known primarily as a Blackhawk, and achieved a championship and a HOF ring. Chelios does not meet this criteria.

The fact that he's a piece of shit traitor that dumped all over Chicago fans is just butter on the bread.

For a guy that suposedly grew up a Hawks fan but asked to be traded to Detroit, then this year as we were starting the Cup Finals chose to attend a regular season Tiger game with kid rock the night of game 1 rather than watch the Hawks greatest moment....then takes a job with Detoilet, I will PUKE RED, BLACK AND WHITE if this JUDAS ever gets let back in our building. "F" the BUM. He's a red wing...NOT a Blackhawk.

If all it took were years in the organization, I better get in line for my Eddie O sweater retirement tickets.

I vote no. I always thought he was a dirty, whiny p.o.s. When he played in Chicago at least he wasn't running Blackhawk players. No. 7 should be saved for Seabs.
Yeah, he was a hell of a player during his career, and I was a huge fan when he played here. But the bottom line is that he played the majority of his career elsewhere, and basically retired as a Wing, joining their front office. So I say hell no, and add one vote for Dany, just cuz.
Exactly. I loved Cheli when he was with the Hawks. But I haven't worn one of my Chelios sweaters since he went to the Wings. Now I view him as a Red Wing, not a Hawk. I don't want to see "his" #7 retired and as soon as I find a place that can do it well, I'll have each of my #7s changed to Seabrook.

Unfortunately, I have this fear that Rocky will see to it that Chelios's number is retired. I hope I'm wrong.

Personally if the team feels a need to retire a number (for any reason), some how I think Larmer would get his retired before Chelios.

No, they shouldn't.

Chelios was certainly a good enough player during his tenure to warrant it, but his tenure simply wasn't long enough. Unlike many others, I really don't care a whole lot about what he did after 1998, but unless you're Bobby Orr you've got to play more than 664 games to get your number retired in my book.

And similarly, just like 664 isn't enough for Chelios, 524 isn't enough for a guy like Roenick.

Agreed on JR 100%. Both were great players and HHOF future, but that said, neither deserve their number retired by the Hawks. I'm not sure there's an x Hawk that does right now. Larmer would be the closest I guess.
