Statistically, CW is getting out played by every quarterback drafted after him

I like Caleb and do think the majority of this is coaching, not surprising but we are going on 3? games without a passing TD? It's a concern. He did look better Sunday for sure, but he also looked like a 3rd round pick managing the game, for most of that game. The 4th QTR heroics are very promising, it's too bad his shitty head coach blows games like @hyatt151 blows @nc0gnet0
Four games. His last touchdown was October 13th.

There is giga coping going on right now. So far Caleb Williams has played by far the softest schedule of passing defenses of any quarterback in the league yet there is a distinct argument he’s been every bit as bad as any consistently starting quarterback in the NFL.

Well, the low % throws in the redzone are on the coordinator. I don't care to recall how many of those there were, I know in Arizona it was way too many.

My general response to this thread is that, as far as I can tell, this is the best statistical season for rookie quarterbacks in NFL history.

Have 4 different rookie quarterbacks ever had passer ratings over 80 in the same season? I looked on pro football reference, and I couldn’t find an example of it ever happening before.

I’d also like to point out that Caleb has the best passer rating by a Bears rookie since Sid Luckman in 1939. It’s been a lifetime since a Bears rookie quarterback has put up numbers this good.

Were Broncos fans in 1983 complaining that Dan Marino was putting up better stats than John Elway?

Sure, but I simply believe that if you are a first overall draft pick throwing to a plethora of weapons that have great NFL resumes and were all very costly to acquire that you should muster at least one touchdown combined in four games against the Redskins, Cardinals, Patriots and Green Bay.

A lot of talk about “putting the Bears in a position to win”, well…not scoring for a calendar month ain’t it. Right now he’s Bryce Young.

Spoken like a true limp dick Bears fan with a severe case of ID.
hey mods, seeing how ya'all are in severe turtle mode (just like your pathetic HC) why not thread ban me on this thread as well).
Pathetic, can dish it out but can't take it.

Well it would’ve been different if Montez Sweat came in and boosted the Bears defense on a long playoff run. Instead he made the fourth or fifth worst team in the NFL more like the ninth worst team in the NFL.

You know that moving down a few spots still nets you a 1st rounder and other picks right?
Again....who's 1st rounder last year was getting you anything better than qb4 (jj mchandoff)

They got the haul the year before....it netted them williams.....they screwed up year 1 by keeping a "defensive" hc and pairing eilliams with a bunch of stiffs in the offensive room who had done little to develop a qb

Get rid of them ALL and bring in an offensive minded HC/OC/PC to develop and expand Williams game

You think a 2nd round pick is going to do that? Just one second round pick is going to make a team go on a long playoff run? I’m not sure what your point is here

People want the Bears to hand off and stop being cute in the red zone, but then they complain about their QB not getting touchdowns. Which is it?

Yeah, I don't doubt that Williams is doing poorly stats-wise compared to other quarterbacks. But what do your eyes tell you when you watch him?

My eyes tell me that he holds onto the ball too long and really struggles with long passes.

They also tell me he has little-to-no-time to allow for offensive plays to develop, has had to learn under an OC who was so bad he got fired before Thanksgiving, has shown time and time again the ability to pull out "wow" plays, poise in the pocket, and scramble throws that might be among the best in the league.

I'm still taking him over Daniels, Maye, etc.

My point is that everything they were ever gonna get out of Montez Sweat they might have already got, and that going forward from this season on you’d rather have whatever you could have gotten in the second round instead.

And what do you have to show for that? Two seasons where the Bears never really had a shot to compete for anything. We’ll see if he turns it around but right now it looks like its trending poorly.

He still has 3 seasons left on his deal. But it’s definitely a fair point.

In other words, too early to tell on any of these guys. Really want to see how Daniels does from here on out too.

Before I give up on him, I'd just say a couple of things.
  • His 2nd half last year was outside his normal level of performance. What we're seeing now is a regression toward the mean... at least that's what I think. He averaged 7.25 sacks a year before last year (0.49/game). Last year he got 12.5. If you add his current 3.5 sacks this year, he's already above his career average for the last two years (0.62/game). But, he probably will get a couple more and end up around 6ish sacks for the season, which, is just a slightly below average year for him (making up for his bigger year last year).
  • Bears have pretty average talent on the DL, which means Sweat will never be lost in the mix by the opposition. He is by far the biggest threat on the DL, and his job will be harder cause of it. In Washington, he played with a very very talented group. I'd even think Young would draw a lot of attention on the name recognition. Here, he has to work a bit more for those stats.

No it's not. Montez isn't just about sacks. He currently is missing Billings, as is the whole line. Look what our DL did without Billings AND MOntez against the run, and then what they did against a very good running team in GB adding Montez back in. Night and day.

Um Bears D has not given up more than 21 points in any game Sweat has played. The one game he missed they got destroyed by Zona. They are currently 7 in scoring defense.
