Alex Smith may be the most under rated performer in the league.
From 2011-now, he has played some of the most mistake free football you will ever see.
75 tds, 26 ints in 50 or so games.
He has been literally perfect in the playoffs- 9 touchdowns and ZERO interceptions over 3 games.
He will not go apeshit throwing the ball all over the place, but he will certainly get it done when needed- He puts up 291 yards per game in his playoff games, and averages 33 ppg in his playoff games.
He is playing mistake free football week in and week out.

Is Jeff George a bust though? I know he never reached his potential, but he had a long career. I always categorized a "bust" as a players that not only didn't live up to expectations but were also likely out of the league in 3-5 years. Just wondering if I'm in the minority camp when it comes to this.

oh yes it's been a long time, and the common denominator through it all was Cutler's fool's gold play. It could happen again.
we want Cutler to play well enough to be tradable but not so well that he convinces Fox/Pace to keep him around

There are many that think Goff will save the franchise, despite the Bears probably not even being in a position to draft him. Many others have said countless times over the years that the Bears could draft a QB to come in and do as well as, or better than, Cutler.

Bust for me is a guy who showed he definitely couldn't play in the league or handle himself in the league.
I don't count guys that got hurt as "busts"(Ki-Jana Carter) etc.
Bust to me is Ryan Leaf, JaMarcus, etc.
Did George live up to expectations? No. But he was in the NFL for a long time and ended up being very productive.
Not a bust IMO. Didn't live up to expectations perhaps but not a bust.

Point taken, this year he's off to a rough start though.
And yeah, never gaudy numbers in the regular season though those games against New Orleans and Indianapolis in the playoffs were something for sure.

Btw..Bears have only taken 4 QBs in the first round since the Super Bowl era begin.
McMahon, Harbaugh, McNown, and Grossman.

That was a bizarre anomaly last season, but the year before all systems were normal.
2014, although weird, can be justified- They had the #2 defense in the league in points allowed, and were 3rd in the league in rushing scores. Reid was playing Martyball all season.
That will normalize this year.
